Outside the Dargah Sharif, men walk up and down the street with giant fans. When they swing them there is a loud woosh and a quite remarkable breeze.
Do these have some history in India? Are they religiously significant? I haven't seen them anywhere else.

Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,

This happens to be a composition in Raag Bhoopali.

The pentatonic scale lends itself to a desi style of chinoiserie.

The PC-police calls this kind of thing "cultural appropriation".

The music is far and away the least of my problems. In fact, my reaction was formed first by watching the footage with the sound muted.

It's the visuals that are so profoundly disturbing. I'm sill trying to figure out, for example, how we get from Hibiya Park to Amanohashidate in one frame.

ETA: And surely that's japonaiserie, as long has we have the PC-po-lice out and about.

Watching Bollywood is like watching opera. You have to suspend disbelief for the duration of the show.

Back in 1966 those people at the Bombay film studios didn't know the difference.

Yeah, yeah, Sammy Coleridge and all that lot.

But whadda I know anyway – I misspelt Amanohashidate first time 'round.

At least the kid with the pigeons, and the swans, and the Nara deer were nice. (Savage bastards that last lot – they'll eat the shirts right off your back.)
