Hi all you good and helpful people on Indiamike.

I am confused. and cant decide on a destination for a new year vacation.

I need some snowfall and chilly weather. The place should be reached by an Esteem. We are 2 adults and 2 Kids aged 11 & 9.

Places to choose between are Kinnaur area in Himachal Prades, or any good place in uttaranchal though have visited many times to all the 4 dhams. Frequented manali at least 6 times.

Please help me to decide the destination.

regards/ vidu

u should visit sangla/baspa valley in kinnur as ur first choice. The place is very very attractive u can stay at Ruckcham or sangla. However the drive from delhi is a long one like u cant reach there in a single day and will need to take a break either at shimla or kufri or narkanda.

Hi Dr. Barai,

Great to have you back and you catching me. I was just trying to explore more possibility. I am a bit afraid to go to a very unknown place that too in the mid winters.

However, if i dont get anything better i would take the risk. However I finding sites about sangla valley and the road map.

In case you have some website please pass it on.

Thanks for taking care and spending your time to make my trip better, we all really appreciate that.

With Best REgards/ Vidu

u can get a good full page map of himachal pradesh from any leading book store in delhi. anyway reaching there is not difficult u need to continue driving the delhi shimla highway and there is only one road. delhi- chandigarh-shimla-kufri-narkanda-rampur-karcham-sanla.I have few pics of the place but they r too big to be uploaded here, tough i can mail them if interested.

Hey, I LUV the way ppl just suggest holiday trips to others with out even thinking twice . Dr.Barai, The gentleman who asked for a holiday destination did specify an esteem and also 2 lil kids ... so suggesting a place like Sangla Valley is STUPIDITY !! We know it could snow on those dates , wat if it does and hes in Sangla .. how wud you want him to get back ?? Leave his car there, walk a few kilometres ( 20-22 kms ) in snow , take a bus or taxi ( pay an enormous amount ), face more bad weather , go back in April to get his car !! That sounds like fun .. doesnt it ??

Ive been watching very quietly for the past so many months and it seems there are a lot of googled members throwing out advise ... GET A LIFE !! There is no compulsion for anyone to answer all the questions that appear .. answer only if you sure of what u saying . Or atleast state -- 'IN MY OPINION blah blah blah .. Pls dont turn ppl holidays into a night mare by posting false info !!

I know you may be trying to help ... BUT think before you post !!

Cheers

Narkanda!

Narkanda can be a good option if you wanna enjoy chill and possibly snowfall during the New Year period. This place is 65 km from Shimla on NH 22 and 434 km from New Delhi and the Esteem will have no problems reaching Narkanda.

Himachal Pradesh Tourism operates a hotel at Narkanda and you can see more details on there website, http://hptdc.nic.in

In case it snows on New Year be prepared to extend your stay for a day or two till the road clears.

Happy travels in my state!

Ps: It ain't a crowded place..
Three goodies for Indian roads-
Good horn, Good brake, Good luck!

Hey Vasuki, Its a nice suggestion but Id like to add that if it does snow you do have an alternate route out that wud stay open no matter what . Though obviously if it snows 2 ft , then it cud be a problem getting anywhere .

If he does think about going to Narkanda, I will ket him know the alternate route to get out .. ket him decide first ..

Cheers

PS -- Vasuki, where in Himachal you from ??

Too harsh...

Khaadu75 !

Everyone writes his/her own experience or views. And we all trust thier honesty and intentions [ Moderators are there to check ! ] but I think your words were too harsh for a reacion.

Yes- I do agree that traveling to SANGLA in January is not fine...but you could have wrote in better expression !

Hey, Lets get real ... maybe a lot of Mods havnt experienced each and every condition on the mentioned rooute so how can they check . Being from the area does help and thats why my statement .. there are a lot of wrong suggestions given so if I check one , I think its fine !!

As for the language, if the Mods think it was too HARSH , they can tell me so ...

Cheers

Well there's a small chance of snow in Kausani, the roads looked fine and it's certainly chilly!! Even if you don't get snow, them snowcaps of Trishul and Nada Devi are something to behold!!
