Hi All,

I am wanting to travel to Key Monastery in the Spiti Valley area. I am planning to go around the end of September (I know roads are usually closed in May/August due to snowfall).

Could anyone advise on the best way to get to the monastery?
Should I take a bus from Dharm to Manali? and then bus from Manali to Kipper? I'm a little confused as to the exact journey to take to get there

Is it safe to travel there on my own?

Thank you so much (in advance) for your help.

It's safe as a solo female- Spiti, that is, not necessarily Manali. You'll do well to check road closure near the time of departure (a couple days ahead is fine - as bus seats should be available - there're mostly government buses in that area hence you're unlikely to be able to book them much in advance). In May Kunzum is usually closed but this year, it has opened ahead of schedule.

On the autumn end, the pass usually closes by mid-October. September should be quite good actually. The plan to go to Manali and take a a bus is fine. For some idea about the place (Key) you can refer to my report in the signature.
