I am traveling to Auli from Kolkata via Delhi- Haridwar-Devaprayag-Rudraprayag-Joshimath.

2 families, 4 adults, 2 kids (3yrs and 7 yrs)

Starting on 5th Feb, reaching Haridwar on the same day. Ticket booked.
Going to Rudraprayag on 6th from haridwar.

Suggest Car fare and hotel. (How is Monal resort, my budget is 2500/room).

I will not be traveling on 7th as my friends kid has a birthday on 7th and we wish to spend some time aside from traveling.

On 8th Morning will go to Auli.

Pls share how is the GMVN log hut is there as if it is OK to stay with family. Like hot water and other basic facilities are available?

Will be staying at Auli till 10th.

Pls suggest short trip from auli possible from an hours drive or so.
Also let me know if the journey to Haridwar from Auli can be made in a single day? And if so what will be time required considering lunch break.

Will be returning to Delhi on 12th Morning, spend some time with friends and take a return flight on 13th Morning.

I am open to any new suggestions also considering the following points:
7th I will not be traveling.
11th I should be able to return back to Haridwar.

Hi Jayit,

Welcome to IM.

I'm trying to give some inputs regarding your queries.

1. February is off season in Garhwal so you will get cabs at a low rate. For a Sumo it may be around 1600/- per day and for Innova it may be around 1900/- per day. (Including fuel, driver and toll taxes)
Monal is a fine resort. You can stay there.

2. GMVN rest house is OK. But if you have a higher budget you can go for the private resorts at Auli.

3. You can visit Kalpeswar (One Kedar of the Panch kedars) near Urgam. Now, vehicles can move upto Urgam village and then an easy trek to Kalpeswar(2 km). At Urgam you can also see the temple of Dhyan Badri (One Badri of the Sapta Badris). Urgam is a beautiful village and I'm sure you'll love the scenic beauty.

4. Though long drive but Auli to Haridwar is possible in a single day. It will take around 9 hours.

Wish you a happy journey in advance.

Onset let me clear that road travel in Uttarakhad is tiring.... very tiring. So breaking journey is good.

Try to start early from Rudra Prayag for Auli, the road is treacherous.

From Joshimath take a cable car ride to Auli. Best & not to miss.

GMVNL Log hut is actually wooden cabin (big disappointment),its small with just a bed, chair & TV in hall & small toilet. But I think you dont need any thing more in such a place. If you dont like there is an option for hotel room. Nothing much diff except brick wall so less cold.
Your HOT water problem is there are they are to be ordered free. Attendant will bring a bucket full of hot water, heated in solar geyser. Food is basic & good at GMVNL restaurant.
Except the GMVNL only 1 private hotel named clifftop is there but its cost is 4 times GVMNL & not worth (ppls says so). When I was at Auli in 2006 a local was building a small guest house I hope is functional now. In Auli there is not much to do, except skiing. Do visit the Hanuman temple, its belive to be the place where he took rest before continuing his journey to fetch sanjivani herb for injured Laxman. If you legs support u pls climb to the final tower of cable car, view from there is awesome. I will also suggest a leisure evening where u just sit in front of ur hut with campfire (ask the attendant) & hot coffee. The view of mountains changing colors as sun goes down is unforgettable.
I suggest 2-3 full day in Auli. one for ski, second for local siteseeing and 3rd to enjoy auli.

If u hire a car, it takes around 9 hrs from Haridwar to Joshimath. But I would suggest not to rush in as there are plenty of places where u must not miss the photo opportunity like DevPrayag,RudraPrayag,KarnaPra yag, NandPrayag & Teen Dhara to name few.

Hi Jayjit,
Don't book your cab in advance. As it is off season you can bargain at Haridwar and can get rates less than 2000/-.
As you said about the package rate for Auli, please post about the no. of days and what charges are included in the package.

Hi Dhrub,

We have just booked a room at the hotel LA Casa for 5th Night. There is no package. I just had requested him for a cab (Innova).

We will start on 6th Morning, go to Rudrapragag stay there for the night and start early morning for Auli. The car will drop us in Auli and leave.
