Hi All, I'm travelling to Sikkim from 7th to 20th of November as a solo traveller. I've just booked my flight tickets to Bagdogra from Bangalore, and yet to decide on a concrete itenary. Places that I have in mind:

Lachen Lachung including Gurudongmar lake and Yumtang
Nathula along with Changu Lake
Pelling sightseeing
Gangtok sightseeing

Any other places apart from these which can be accommodated in a 12 day itenary would be really helpful. I'm also keen on exploring Wildlife of Sikkim, so any sanctuary (not zoo) where Red Pandas inhabit would be interesting too.

Thanks,
Shailesh

Welcome to India Mike.

You may add a couple days for Yuksom. Shared jeep services are available from Pelling to Yuksom .

For a solo traveller , local sightseeing in Gangtok & Pelling would be costly. No shared option available at these places for sightseeing. You need to hire an exclusive cab.

North Sikkim trip ( Yumthang & Gurudongmar) & Tsomgo + Baba Mandir trip can be done in shared cars

Thanks Arupratan!
I spoke to Local travel agents in Gangtok and they said the same. However I've read blogs where people have travelled to pelling via share cabs. However no direct info on it.

Costly as in how costly? 🙂

Yes, you can get Shared cabs for Pelling ( say from Gangtok .. ) . But if you want to do local sightseeing in Pelling ( PLaces like Khechiperi Lake, Kanchenjungha Fall, Singshore Bridge, Monasteries etc) you need to hire a cab from Pelling.

Cab rates depends upon the season & distances / points covered. For eg, for a half day trip they charge around 1500 / 2000 Rs & full day charge may be around 2.5K/3K .

Thanks a ton !

That is still cheaper than what a travel agent quoted. He quoted me 19k just for Pelling for 2.5 days.. I guess I'll take the shared taxi and explore myself.

Just a point : You'll not get shared cabs for Gangtok / Pelling from Bagdogra . You need to go to Siliguri for availing the shared cabs.

Then it may be too late to get a shared cab from Siliguri for Pelling / Gangtok.

You need to move to Gangtok / Pelling by exclusive cab, unless you find a group at the airport willing to share the cab with you.
