Day 7- Majuli-SALMORAH

Then to a small village "SALMORAH" of pottery making people. Entire village of about 60 families are into the business.Bad road to the village was well compensated by the time spent with the pottery makers.

DAY -7 MAJULI....Our last evening

On the way back....Lunchtime.

Sandhya was always in the lookout for a shop to buy some iron KATURI. She actually found a place where the products are being made. She was not going to miss the chance.

On the way back to our home stay some beautiful moments were captured

When we reach the homestay.....saw Manojit cleaning the road himself.

The day ended with Manav trying to capture the photograph of the weasel...we all taking veg dinner. And me preparing a trademark veg salad for all the guests present at the homestay.

Next day early morning to catch the first ferry to Nimati.

You have got the serious courage to undertake this tour of 1 month duration. How did you manage kids school, their study, tuition etc. ???

December 8th....8th day of our trip.

Today's plan was to travel from Majuli to Nimati Ghat by ferry.

Size: 18.7 KB Early morning at Kamalabari Ghat,MAJULI.

I had two options from there to Kohima in Nagaland. One which goes via Mockukchung and another via Dimapur. I was advised to take the Dimapur route via Golaghat.

We reached Jorhat at about 9 am. Tried to buy some tea, had our breakfast ( according to Megha, we had proper breakfast after a week) and then to Dimapur.

Without a ILP which stands for "inner line permit", which is mandatory for non-nagaland Indians to enter Nagaland, we already had a minor tension. But as it turned out, they are not very particular about the ILP during Hornbill.

Road condition between Golaghat to Dimapur was horrible. But were in shock to see the road condition between Dimapur and Kohima. Actually there seems to be no road at all, at least for the last 37 km before Kohima. Anyway we reached Kohima at about 5 pm after suffering with a flat tyre at the top of the hills.

The hotel there was extremely bad, stinking....it did not inform that there will be no entry for vehicles till 10 pm due to night carnival. Only silver line for the day was, there was a Street carnival at Kohima and our hotel was on the same street.

Street food was enough. Ravi was at the parking lot due to no entry to the hotel. Somehow we managed some food for him after bringing the car to the hotel.

Next day we are supposed to reach Kisama heritage village where Hornbill festival takes place.

Every thing you do in life has its ups and downs. As December is mostly the month of annual sports, dramas, science fest, carnival etc... in the school, also there were 10 winter break holidays, another 6 weekends plus 2-3 more holidays. so it was about missing few activities and 4-5 days of schooling.

We felt, we can do that at least once...further when the kids understood what they will gain during the trip about new culture, people, places they were ready to skip the activities this year.

And after finishing the trip, me and Sandhya felt we as a team have done something good.

MAJULI- What I missed

1- discovering the by-lanes of the island in a Bicycle/scooter

2- A fishing spot, about 4 kilometers away.

3- The tribal villages, where i could have meet local tribes, know their culture first hand

4- Few weaver community stay in tribal villages. Seeing them weave would have been an experience

5- Few bird place, where migratory birds come in large number in winter.

6- Eating at Bitupan/Polo restaurant at Kamalabari market.

I share your thought , in fact shortlisted some places , many of them going to dogs very fast and have tried to make the kids experience them before we completely lose them.

December 9th....our 9th day on road.

Early morning...there was no one in the hotel to open the main gate. Ravi was supposed to repair the tyre before leaving for Kisama. But.....left for the venue after filling air.

30 minutes later after traveling 12 kms here we were at the festival of festivals. The place which we did not even dream to come just a couple of months back. This is the place which is one of the highlights of our trip.

Kite Manza was the tent site, our home for next two night. Wrongly we traveled up in the hills upto Tragopan camp site. After sometime, were at the camp site. Very authentic. Limited resources....our Moto was " let's experience it"

Kite Manza is a relatively new startup, started by four friends Rex, Raj, Shyamal and Jaindeep in the forefront. Few more have joined the team since the inception 4 years back. Another story for me to take some inspiration from.

Next was the hornbill festival.....what to say? A tour write-up can not do justice. One has to experience it to understand. Spend couple of days to feel it.

Out of the 10 days celebration, we had planned for last two days. We expected to watch the BHOOT JALOKIA eating competition, some authentic Naga product for Sandhya, tribal dances, visiting the morungs, bonfire...... Watching all tribals of Nagaland.
