Hi Everyone,

I am planning a trip with family to south India in Last week of august or first week of september'2013. I have full 7 days in hand for the trip excluding the travel time. We are planning to start from Trivandrum, local sightseeing and spend first night in trivandrum/kovalam beach, then from next day onwards,

2nd day Kanyakumari
3rd day-Madurai
4th day- Rameswaram
5th and 6th day Kodaikanal -Return by train

Now there are few things-

1. I checked online about the weather in august-september, and came to know that it will be raining at that time, will we be able to go to the places? Or we have to postpone it till september last week to october first week, but it will be a problem for me to do that. What do you suggest? can I go in august?

2. Is it possible to replace Kodaikanal with Munnar?

3. I have one full day in my hand, and I am not being able to plan this one, my father wants to go to one more place (options are- Kochin, Ooty, any backwater place in kerala), but I do not understand in that case how to plan my itinerary.

4. Another thing is, if I add one of the places of my father's wishlist-is it possible on 3rd day to start from kanyakumari in morning,
stop at Rameswaram, visit Ramanathaswamy Temple , Agni Theertham ,Pamban Bridge, Dhanuskodi, Gandamadana Parvatham and,
then proceed to Madurai, nightstay,
4th day in the morning visit Meenakshi Temple, Gandhi Museum, Thiruparankundram temple, Thirumalai Nayakkar mahal, Aayiram Kaal Mandapam, Alagarkoil Temple, Sri Subramanya Swamy Temple
and then have lunch and proceed to next destination (and am I missing any other sightseeing place in Rameswaram and Madurai) ?

Please suggest how to plan the itinerary. Your suggestions are welcome.
thanks in advance.

Hi Debojyoti,

Welcome to Indiamike. It's really a nice world of web to get all possible travel tips. You'll love it.

Well, it'll be better to go in Sept-Oct time to avoid rain and humid weather. South India is basically hot and August will be troublesome. But I'll not suggest you to drop your plan totally.

Munnar is very much doable from Madurai, but rain in Kodaikanal will be better than Munnar, I think. Sorry, I've not visited Kodai yet. Hope other IMer must suggest you.

From Madurai you can add Thekkady-Periyar side only, if you go Munnar. Other part of Kerala is not possible.

KK - Rameswaram-Madurai-Munnar/Kodai is the right plan, but you have to stay at Rameswaram. See this :

Hi Duronto Jajabar,
Thank you very much for your reply. Yeah, it's a nice forum to have such helpful members like you.
I am really confused now, regarding where to go, my parents are aged, they may suffer due to humidity, now the situation is- I have one free week in August, that's why I am planning to go for a vacation.
Could you please suggest any other trip plan for 6-7 days which I can do in August? Options are-

Corbett-Nainital-ranikhet-almora-kausani
Dalhousie- Dharamshala- Amritsar
Haridwar-mussoorie-rishikesh-delhi-agra
Sikkim-east sikkim/ south sikkim and kalimpong

These are the places that my parents want to go, but you can surely suggest any other option, that would be suitable for aged persons,
Thanks

Debojyoti, Himalaya in August may be rainy, though some sides like Valley of Flowers are doable for special reason. Though you can try Haridwar-Hrisikes-Moosouri-Dehradun. Please find threads for more information/suggestions in right forum.

Now rain has almost stopped. Ooty is distant from other locations. You may choose Kodaikanal or Thekkadi/ Munnar

@Debojyoti: As you pass by Madurai , I think you can add Kumbkonam to the list , its a temple town & famous pilgrim destination --- At rameshwaram , please make it a point to visit the place where two sea meets ( around 16 km from rameshwaram -- you will either have to share the truck which normally carries around 15 passengers to that point or you can hire an independent auto/jeep -- got to negotiate hard for the rates then ).
