Hello

We're a family of 3, my wife , me and our 9 y old daughter. We are visiting for 10 N and 11 days flying from NY city. We would like to visit Agra, Udaipur, Jodhpur and back to Delhi to take our return flight to JFK, NY. We have visited Delhi in the past. So, like to explore the other cities more.

My initial plan is after arriving at Delhi, take a day to recover from jetlag. Next day - Agra for 3 N, from there - Udaipur ( no. of nights 2 ) --- Jodhpur (2N) ----New Delhi and back to USA.

Please advise us with this itinerary, also mode of travel from city to city...any hotel recommendation

Thank you so much.

When are you planning to do this?

3 days in Agra would be a bit too much. You could include Bharatpur / Deeg along with it if you are planning to visit before April.

Udaipur needs at least 2 full days minimum. Hire a cab from Udaipur to see Ranakpur and / or Kumbhalgarh on the way to Jodhpur.

In Udaipur you could consider Kotra Haveli / Jagat Niwas Palace / Mewar Haveli. In Jodhpur you could consider Durag Niwas / Pal Haveli. If you consider Bharatpur then you could consider Falcon Guest House / Sunbird.

Thanks Aarosh for your advice. I have a conference in Agra 26-29th of November, started planning a little bit earlier as need to do a lot of things. I like to go to Udaipur on the 29th. Is there any travel service from Agra to Udaipur, starts in the morning . I want to stay Udaipur 29, 30th of November...Dec 1 to Jodhpur, starting early from Udaipur..Dec 2nd night train from Jodhpur to New Delhi. Regarding hiring a cab from Udaipur to Jodhpur..is there any link or sites where I can get some help or will get it when we are there ?

I think the only Agra - Udaipur option is the overnight train, see here.
Your Udaipur hotel can arrange a car to Jodhpur.
Jodhpur to Delhi can also be done by flying

Hi - not sure how much free time you'll have in Agra working around your conference. Obviously you'll want to see the Taj Mahal. Agra Fort is one of my favorites. You can also visit Fatehpur Sikri from Agra. It's about an hour's ride. In any city you can hire car/driver from your hotel. It can be convenient but many times more expensive than if you get a recommendation or hire a taxi on the road. Having already visited India, you probably know you should have an idea of pricing before you get in a taxi.

I think your plan of overnight train to Udaipur is good. If you leave Udaipur on Dec. 1st, try to stop at Kumbhalgarh Fort on the way because the 1st is the day the Kumbhalgarh Festival starts (https://www.travup.in/fair_festival_...arh%20festival - Google for additional info). You should be able to leave Udaipur around 9 a.m. and arrive in time for the start of the festival. Spend a couple of hours and then head to Jodhpur.

I highly recommend Jaiwana Haveli in Udaipur (http://www.jaiwanahaveli.com/). Food in the rooftop restaurant overlooking the lake is excellent, location is good - get a room with a view. The brothers who own the haveli are very accommodating and can make arrangements for sightseeing as well as your car/driver onto Jodhpur. While in Udaipur your daughter might enjoy the show - Bagore Ki Haveli.

On your way to Jodhpur after stopping at Kumbhalgarh Fort, make a stop at Ranakpur. Once in Jodhpur I highly recommend Haveli Inn Pal (http://www.haveliinnpal.com/). We loved the location - within a minute's walk of the market and looking up at Mehrangarh Fort. The views of the fort from the restaurant are totally unobstructed. We also had the same view of the fort from our room as well as monkeys on the next roof over. The Fort is the must see in Jodhpur. If you have enough time I highly recommend walking around Brahmapuri/the "blue" part of the city. You can check out walking tours in any city - they are usually excellent including the food tours!

There are good domestic airlines in India so you can save a lot of time flying back to Delhi rather than taking a train from Jodhpur. Enjoy!

As she is grown up, in college, so taking my 9y old daughter to visit Agra and other places. I really appreciate your valuable suggestions and will start working on it. Regards...

One thing I forgot to mention is that the road between Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur is very narrow and winding. My daughter was probably 5 at the time we did the drive and had never been car sick before. Key word before. If it's possible your daughter does/might get car sick I'd bring some non-drowsy Dramamine.

Would you not be attending the conference for all the 4 days? Asking since you are planning to leave Agra on 29th morning.

That works perfectly in time for the overnight train on the 28th!

So you can plan to taking the Mewar Express (12963) from Bharatpur (departs at 21:37) and reaches Udaipur at 7:15.

Thanks Pani Puri. I've booked the hotels you suggested in Udaipur and Jodhpur. I'm still trying to get some extra days so that I can stay more time in Jodhpur and Udaipur. Just 2 nights in each city, may not be enough. I will take the flight from Jodhpur with a transit at New Delhi to JFK. Regards..

Didn't understand this. I will be in Agra and will take the overnight train from Agra to Udaipur. Please advise which rail station and which train will be a better option to take from Agra to Udaipur. Thanks
