I know Garhwal is in UA but when we are so specific on UA weather without mentioning much on HP which is also a neighbouring state, I thought it's wiser to get it clarified about Garhwal weather separately :D.

Your Q, or rather my statement ("If there's no rain, all of December provides clear skies across northern UA") was about UA, so no reason to bring in HP ;).

I can start from West i.e. Chakrata, so what should be nearest Rail head/Airport? Also give me brief outline of any loop / major places that I can cover in 2 weeks comfortably using hired car keeping in mind scneic places should be covered and don't want to touch upon religious and touristy places.

Dehradun RS. Don't bother with air travel DEL-DED because it makes no sense (airport location, schedule, cost) considering the existence of good night-trains from Del (you could also consider the Upasana Exp. direct from Cal to DDN, works well schedule-wise).
Starting from Chakrata, you could work your way across to Mussoorie/Dhanolti, and/or Sari/Devriya Tal, and/or Jakholi, and/or Dugalbitta/Chopta, then work your way across to Khirsu and/or Lansdowne, eventually working your way across to Corbett. Then either train back to Delhi, or find your way to Moradabad or Rampur for a connecting train to Cal.

If you think I should read something before asking questions, refer me some good materials/sites/threads/posts so that I can read and comeback with more specific question. Honestly I have no idea on this specific part of Himalaya.

There's tons of good info in a number of threads, I suggest a search by title for places like Chakrata, Mussoorie, Chopta, even Lansdowne, and a general search for other place names. In one or two threads you'll find a list of useful threads compiled by me (pertaining to that place/topic). Some threads you'll find as stickys in the UA forum. For Corbett, look in the Wildlife forum.

Ok, No HP ( I thought Weather doesn't understand the state boundaries, specially neighbouring state;)), agreed to the logic of the context.

One little silly question may be, whenever viewing Himalayan peaks are concerned or some grand sunrise/sunset, why people more often talks about Kumayun rather than Garhwal? Is it that vistas and view points are in general much better in Kumayun?

Is this a plan for 14 days considering I would use hired vehicle always? I was exactly looking for something like this to start with. Now in other thread someone commented no need to understand your post without keeping a detailed map, so I am not trying to process the information now, would come back later but anyway I understand in Garhwal getting in and coming out should be by Rail only, now I have to see if using a CCU-DEL flight gives me any advantge regarding saving one/two days. Then definitely it makes sense, else I would go for Upasana.

Thanks, I would do that as well, Corbett part I have read quite a few posts/threads but Garhwal somehow I am least aware of. Is it only a trekker's and pigrimmer's paradise or it has many things to offer for people who would like to drive around too?

Hmm, very good Q.
You know, when I apply my mind to it, it's infrastructure.
Yep - let me explain. The view points in Garhwal are on average higher than those of Kumaon. Why? Kumaon's intermediate ranges are at lower altitude and more the rolling kind, you can see over them at many places. Garhwal's are towering walls with few gaps in between. So other than those gap-points, you have to be higher up to catch similar views. Those higher points have either basic or no infrastructure, and as you know most tourists will prefer infrastructure.
But then infrastructure has its negatives - draws more tourists :) (including the "wrong" kind).

Er no, it's a list of places. The plan you're going to come up with. :)

I have no complaints. :) Hell, I'll go anywhere in the hills, view or no views. :)

The yatra is both a blessing and a blight for Garhwal IMO. Brings in lots of earnings for a lot of people, but also tends to swamp the imagination. I won't even mention the crowds (oh, I just did [Blush]).
