Hi IMikers,

We are reaching Gangtok tomorrow afternoon at around 3 PM. And will be going off for Lachen on the 26th April. I have a couple of questions:

1. Will it be possible to get the permits done on the morning of 26th April (that is what our driver is suggesting he will do) and head towards Lachen on the same day? If not then will it be possible to get the permits done by tomorrow evening?

2. We have plans of going to Gurudongmar, Yumthang Valley, Zero point and Katao. How many PP size photographs we need to submit?

Please reply ASAP.
Thanks,
Sayantani

Hi,

Here are the answers:

1. Generally it takes only half an hour to get the permit after submitting documents. So you may get the permit by tomorrow evening also.

2. For Indian Citizens 2 Nos passport size photos are required.

1. Generally the same day permit is not issued. Permit is issued overnight for the next day. So if you reach Gangtok by 25th late afternoon, submit copy of voter ID and photo at the evening to the travel agent. There are plenties of travel agent in and around MG marg. They will charge 2600/- each for 2N3D trip to Gurudongmar and Yumthang.

2. 2 copies of photographs and photocopies of Voter ID card is required because a single permit will be taken for both Gurundongmar and Yumthang. Initial checking will be done at Chumthang enroute to Lachen. 2nd round of checking will be done at Thangu.

3. No permit is required for zero point and Katao. Katao is actuaaly closed. It is under the territorial guard of Chinese army. The drivers will take you to a point 22 kms away from Katao at an extra charge. They generally charge additional 1500 rs for a car carrying 10 passengers. So per head charge is 250/-. Please do keep in mind to bargain this amount.

Happy Journey
