Hi All! I'm very excited as I am making my first trip to India this Dec! Because of time constraints due to work my sister and I will only be there for 9 days...we are flying into Mumbai and spending two nights before flying to Goa (staying at Bhakti Kutir) for two nights before heading to Mangalore for another two days for a conference that I am presenting at...my question is...we can't decide if we should head south to Cochin and check out some kathakali or head north to sacred Varanasi for our last two days...any thoughts or suggestions...and yeah I know it's a lot for our absurdly limited time frame!
It's of course impossible to say but I think Cochin and perhaps surroundings (boat trip) would be in reasonable distance and more easy-going on you. Varanasi I just couldn't get enough of but that was after having travelled around for some time, it would probably have been just another overwhelming city if I hadn't. It's also just very far away, if you need to get back to Mumbai it would just be flying in and out of there not knowing what hit you. I'd say save it for a next trip, what you've got is quite enough.
