Hi,

We are planning to go for Green Lake trek in North Sikkim in mid April or mid May 2012. I surfed net but could not locate any agency which is reliable as well as reasonal (cost) who arranges this trek. Can someone please let me know details of any agency or guide who arranges this trek?

Thanks in advance

Bumping an old thread (also my first post here).

My Dad & I were interested in doing this trek around March/April 2012 but apart from the gang-gang.net link we haven't found anything. We're Indian citizens so hopefully permissions should not be an issue. Though it seems even Indians need permissions and it goes to the MoD and it can take three months?

Does anyone have a cost estimate?

Also, I've read about issues with porters. Can anyone elaborate?

Thanks!

As once I was been contacted with an agency (somewhere mid of this year) and follows were their given prices:

Rs. 72500/- per person* (For a minimum of 4-6 person)
* 4.9 % service tax extra

Hope this help.

Thanks - that does help. That's certainly not cheap. It seems to be very difficult to find any information about this trek on the Internet. It appears as if nobody on India Mike has done this.

Yep it's not cheap and it is as per the behavior of the trek as stated by the agency - it's the most expensive trek in Sikkim by it's nature and requirement. Hence I also had to postpone my dream for that purpose! Though I'm sure certainly you'd found someone who did this trek at IM!

Btw, this might give you some more fair picture for the price structure:

Cost Includes:
- Accommodation: Hotel/Guest House at Lachen with breakfast. While on trek we will provide you Dome/Alpine trekking tents on twin sharing basis. Camping mattresses, kitchen tent, dining tent, camping stool, table etc would be provided.
- Transport: Tata Sumo or Mahindra Max from Gangtok to trek point & back.
- Meals: Lachen only breakfast will serve. While on trek, all meal. Meals will be freshly prepared and will be a mix of Indian, Chinese & Continental.
- Yaks/Porters: For carrying camping equipment, rations, vegetables and some amount of personal gear of the clients (one bag not weighing more than 15 kgs).
- Professional local trekking guide and kitchen staff would accompany the group
- Entry fee and permit fee etc
- North Sikkim Royalty
- Liaison Officer fees
- Restricted are permit fees

It seems an IMer from Calcutta by the name of Sujoy Das has done this trek. I will write to him.

The other problem is that there are only two of us. And this seems harder than Dzongri and Goechala.

What is the permit situation for Indians?

I am in the US right now otherwise I would call some companies in Sikkim.

It's not Yak and Yeti, but with some other tour operator. I still have their mail with my mailbox, and the person was communication very co-operate too in term of replying. If you want I can pass you the whole mail to you, it has I guess a lot of certain information. That might also keep you easy contacting them too! I'm not sure about the permit situation actually as I loss certain hopes after the price amount and stopped researching on this ...

it's true.. these expeditions generally happens as a group base, with a minimum number of persons.. I'm not sure how hard it could be for you to find out certain enthusiasts person at that time.. and of corse agreed in this price range...
