hi everyone,

I'm planning a trip leaving london to mumbai 27th December and returning from mumbai on 15th Dec, so 19 days. Would really appreciate help with the rest of my itinerary. So bit about me: I am 26 year old female solo traveller, been to india once before to Delhi, Agra, Varanasi and Bodhgaya. I am interested in doing some relaxing on the beach/yoga, historical sites, meeting local indian people (you can't exactly not do that ), just enjoying the general craziness and beauty of the country!

So plan so far:

28th arrive mumbai at 3.15am
29th mumbai
30th mumbai to goa, mandovi express to pernem. transfer to yoga centre.
31st start yoga course in arambol
1st yoga arambol
2nd yoga arambol
3rd yoga arambol
4th yoga arambol
5th-15th ???

So the ideas I've been thinking are after spending 5 days doing yoga in arambol to either go to hampi on the 5th/6th spending 5 ish days there then travel up to ellora caves. I found on another post someone said that on a tuesday you can get the train from hampi to aurangabad dept 16.00 arriving at 4.50am in Ahmadnagar then get a bus for 2 hours to aurangabad. Then on 14th travel back to mumbai to leave on 15th.

OR spend the 5th-14th in kerala? I could take train down to cochin and travel a bit around there. Then on 14th get a flight to mumbai.

Spending budget is budget to medium: travel mainly trains 3ac if can get it and won't mind taking a flight if necessary. Accom, budget/backpacker type places.

So questions:

1. If I went to kerala from goa, what would be a good itinerary for those 9 days?

2. What do you think the pros/cons would be of travelling to hampi/ellora in that time frame compared to kerala? I guess I am asking for personal opinion, what do you think would be more enjoyable?

3. Would it be better to pick one from hampi/ellora and then spend longer in mumbai before I go back?

I can imagine people could think but ellora/hampi and kerala, how can you compare its so different! But I need a little help to decide so any advice or thoughts about this will be useful and gratefully received. Thanks!

Katharine

I have a similar dilemma! Will arrive to Mumbai on the 27th Dec and hoping to make my way to Goa straight away. I am flirting with the thought of visiting Hampi, but I find it quite hard to work out what to do next. Shall I go back to Mumbai and up to Ellora, or shall I make my way down to Kotchi?

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Karfypie. I have just checked out the flights from Kotchi to Mumbai! One of the budget airlines must be on sale! There are 8 flights from Kotchi to Mumbai and 5 flights from Bangalore to Kotchi! I think I will make my way to the south!

Let me know what your plans are, maybe we can travel together for a while.

Hey Avnire, sorry for the delayed reply I didn't realise anyone had replied to this post I made! I wonder if we are on the same plane! Fingers crossed the snow will melt and we will be able to leave. Have you made any more plans? Where are you staying in Mumbai as I need to book somewhere for 3 nights when I arrive. That would be really cool to meet up if we are in the same area at the same time which I think we will be.

I haven't sorted what the rest of the trip is looking like after Goa, am cosidering leaving it up to when I get there but think I will book a plane from kochi to mumbai before returning, is that what you have done?

Take care karfy xxxxxxx

Hi,
It is still raining in Kerala. So check the weather before going there.
Hampi should be a great option. Lots on info on Hampi in the Karnataka section.
Aurangabad is easily doable from Mumbai and a must see. 2 days in Aurangabad should be enough to catch the major sites.

I'd skip Pune ... the other places have a lot more to offer.
@vicky ... Not sure why anyone would would think that a bomb blast will make a place famous.

Of all the good things in Pune, you could only remember a horrific incident as the city's claim to fame?

Hey Karfy,
Which yoga centre are you planning on at arambol. I need to plan for a yoga vacation sometime in Jan. Is this any good? Know ppl who have been there? Thx
And my preference would be Hampi over Aurangabad. I would not recommend more than a couple of days in Mumbai. Rather explore more of South India than spend time in mumbai.

Hey,

Where did you end up going? I made it down to Hampi then Kerala via Bangalore (Kocthi, Cherai beach, Backwaters, Amma's ashram, Varkala, Periyar). I had a blast! I want to go back!!

Ps: Yes, I did fly back to Mumbai from Kochi, and during the entire trip I just went with the flow, never booked anything ahead. It all worked out well!

xx
