Hi,

I have been studying Hindi for some time now and have some basic vocabulary. I can form some simple sentences and understand the simpler sentences in Hindi films. I can read devanagari fairly easily most of the time, and understand quite a bit of the grammer.

I would really like to spend 3-6 months in India studying Hindi so that I can bring up my level of speaking and comprehension. I am happy to start fairly near the bottom again, if only to make sure I have a secure foundation. I tend to go to India every 6 months or so, and I have a mixed Indo-Trini-British family so I am not worried about any kind of culture shock from living in India for this time. My only problem is finding a reputable place that can really help
me study.

So far the two places that come up the most seem to be two schools that are quite tucked out the way (one of them is in Mussoorie I think?). This is not really desirable to me. Don't misunderstand me, but I don't want to get stuck with a whole bunch of foreginers all learning Hindi with nothing else to do. I would rather study in a northern city (it doesn't have to be Delhi) where I can practice in my daily goings about and have some freedom over what I can do (rather than being stuck somewhere miles from anywhere).

I have seen the CHI course, but my only problem with that is that it is in Agra...and I am not a big fan of Agra. I wouldn't rule it out if it is the best option for me, I'm just saying that there are other cities I would rather spend 6 months in!

If anyone can share some up-to-date experiences in this area (I notice some other threads are very out of date), that would be great.
