Hi travel gurus,

We are planning for a trip to Lonavala and surrounding places in the 2nd week of Nov (7th to 14th). Our intent is to cover Lonavala,Khandala, Imagica,Matheran and Mahabaleshwar in 5 days with 4 members. Do you think its going to be hectic to visit 5 places in 5 days or is it okayish? Do you guys suggest any changes to our itenarary, especially replacing Mahabaleshwar with any other place? We are planning to stay at Lonavala or Matheran and operate from there. Do you think its a good move or do you have any other suggestions? Also can you please suggest some decent budget hotels for family either in Lonavala or Matheran?

Please advise. Thanks.

Skip Matheran. There are no vehicles allowed in Matheran. One has to park their vehicle at Dasturi Naka and then take a horse / man pulled rickshaw / walk down to the main market area where majority of the hotels are situated.

Concentrate on Mahabaleshwar / Panchagani / Wai. On the way back halt at Lonavala and while going back to Mumbai see Imagica.

Thanks for the quick response. So how long is Dasturi Naka from Matheran? If coveyance is not an issue then do you still suggest Panchagani/Wai over Matheran?

From Dasturi Naka, Matheran bazaar is around 3 kms. All the points are spread across Matheran which can only be accessed by the modes mentioned in the previous post.

For 5 days skip Matheran. Mahabaleshwar / Panchgani 2 days. On the way to Lonavala see Wai. Lonavala / Khandala a day. Imagica will be a full day. To reach Mahabaleshwar from Mumbai would take around 6 hours via Mumbai - Pune express way.

3 adults and a child. Anything less than 2000 per day will be good enough..

Less than Rs 2000 would be difficult as you would need a 3 bedded room.

In Lonavala Lohana Samaj could be an option. I am not sure if they would admit people from all religions. I was there many moons ago with a Kutchi friend and were 6 teenagers including a female.

In Mahabaleshwar I would suggest Mulberry Inn / Cottage. It would be close to around Rs 4000.

From where would be leaving for Mahabaleshwar. If Western suburbs then leave early in the morning before traffic starts. Early morning you would reach McDonald's Kamothe (where the expressway starts) in about an hour and half.
