Hi! I have found some posts touching on my question, but none that I have found to really answer it yet. My partner and I are planning a trip to India next August, and we want to figure out the most cost efficient way, and ideally a way that we can reserve in advance, to go from Leh to Jispa, stay for a day to see the Dalai Lama, and then continue on ultimately to Dharamsala. The questions we have that we havent yet been able to get answered are:

1) We know there are buses from Leh to Manali, but we aren't clear on whether if we get off in Jispa for a day if we will be able to hop back on the next time a bus comes through, or how we would handle that. Since the DL will be in town, we are not completely confident that there will be extra space for us, unless these types of things can be worked out in advance. Also, I know the buses usually set up tent for everyone for the night they stay over, but if we stay that extra day I am not sure if we will be able to find a tent to stay in that second night...?

2) If we were to hire a jeep, is this something we just have to wait to do when we get there, or are there some companies any of you know of that we can email/call/find on the web? We would really like to schedule in advance because we are thinking transportation might be hard to find if a lot of people are heading out to see the Dalai Lama. I see people posting rates of around 1200-1800 rupees per person, but the only things I can find online thus far are way higher than that...

3) Is there anything special we need to know about showing up at a Dalai Lama teaching? I know in Dharamsala people typically register a couple of days before the teaching, but we wont be there to do that... any advice or knowledge on this, what we should be prepared for, etc?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Amy

There are only 2 hotels in Jispa 1 of them is quite big so if you Google Jispa hotel it should come up. I would book a room there now if I was you!! The buses don't run everyday I think it's every 2. Share jeeps from Leh to Manali 4yrs ago were 800-1200Rs.KK

I found Padma Lodge GREAT.....

The rooms were very clean, large and the water was good and hot, which was needed after a good days riding.

The bed was great and the linen was of good quality and clean.

I felt a bit guilty about walking across the carpet in my boots to get to a chair to take them off....
