Hello everyone
I would really appreciate some feedback on the itinerary below. I've rearranged my itinerary to give more time to Leh (now have 14 days) rather than Srinagar, but now I'm not sure what to do with the extra days.

Question - Should I add days to Ule, Nubra, Pangong Tso, or Tso Moriri and reduce days in Leh that I put in to rest between long drives?

We are healthy 50-60 year olds traveling and we enjoy scenery/nature, scenic local villages, local culture, wildlife/birds.

8/29 - 9/1 - Srinagar

9/1 Leave Srinagar Overnight in Kargil

9/2 9/3 - Overnight in Ule Tokpo, Alchi or Likkir
- Do Alchi, Likkir, Lamayuru, Sangam, Magnetic Hill, Spituk - is there anything else based on our interests (above)?
- Add nights here?

9/3 9/5 Two nights in Leh
- Old town, market, and Shanti Stupa

9/5 9/7 Two nights in Nubra Valley - Stay in Hunder, Diskit and/or Tirtuk
- Do Samstenling, Diskit, Hunder, Tirtuk - is there anything else based on our interests (above)?
- Add nights here?

9/7 9/9 Two nights in Leh relax, see Leh Palace
OR - do Shey, Tikse, Stok

9/9 9/10 Overnight trip to Pangong Tso with Hemis, Takthok, etc. enroute?
- What to see and do at Pangong Tso?
- Add nights here?

9/10 9/12 Two nights in Leh

9/12 9/13 - Tso Moriri with Chushul and Hanle enroute?
- What to see and do at Tso Moriri?
- Add nights here?

9/13 9/15 Two nights in Leh

9/15 - Fly to Jammu

Thanks so much in advance!

Sounds like a good plan. 14 days is enough, unlike some who try to visit Ladakh in 5 days and don't enjoy it at all.

Leh town will cool down and have a bit less traffic in September than now, but really it's not charming anymore, so if you like peace and quiet, I'd add an extra day as you suggest, in either Uletokpo to visit other place in its area, or in Nubra.

In Uletokpo the nearby things are a nice walk to hidden Ridzong monastery, rent cycles and ride to Alchi instead of going by taxi, or going up to little-visited Mangyu in a high valley accross the river. Or river rafting on the Indus.

In Nubra, an extra day would allow you to visit Turtuk for two nights, which I think would be great.

I don't think there would be much to do with extra nights in Pangong or Tsomoriri, and they are both higher and colder than Leh, Uletokpo and Nubra. If you're not Indian, I don't think you can visit Chushul.

There are plenty of nice day trips that can be done from Leh itself, but the town is becoming crowded, trafficky and noisy.

Thanks for your feedback! I did make some changes to my itinerary after I posted it.

I added a night to Nubra (now 3 nights there). It sounds like I can drive straight to Turtuk and spend 2 nights before going to Hundur for 1 night, so that I'm a little closer getting back to Leh.

Someone suggested going directly to Nubra after the 1 night in Ule (instead of going to Leh first) - any thoughts?

I also added Tso Kar to the itinerary with Tso Moriri (so two nights there) after reading a couple of blogs and great info about it (esp. the wildlife and birds there) - just hoping it won't be too cold in September and that we can get accommodation easily. I would welcome any suggestions or advice on this.

My itinerary is now:
1 night Ule on the way from Srinagar
2 nights Leh
3 nights Nubra
1 night Leh
1 night Pangong Tso
1 night Leh
2 nights Tso Moriri/Tso Kar
2 nights Leh

Thanks!

Looks good. No, don't try to scoot straight over to Nubra from the Srinagar road. Give yourself a day or two. And if you are not Indian citizens you'll have a day in Leh to get permits anyway.

I agree. That's what I'm thinking as well.

Another question - it was also suggested that I go from Pangong Tso to Chumathang (the long way) for the night instead of Leh, so that I can get to Tso Moriri earlier in the day. Do you have any idea of driving times from:

Pangong to Leh
Leh to Tso Moriri
Pangong to Chumathang to Tso Moriri
Karu to Tso Kar (going there first instead of Tso Moriri)

Also, any opinions on the scenery, acclimatization issues, etc. of one route over another.

I truly appreciate the help!
