Hi,

I have always dreamed of going to India and have now booked to go in the new year with my wife and 4 year old son. I'm leaving UK on 30th December and return on the 17th January.

I'm flying to Bangalore, then want to travel down and explore Kerala, and I'd really appreciate any help and advice on an itinerary.

Things I really want to do are relax on some beaches for maybe a week. Varkala looks lovely, and I've seen there are lovely beaches at Cochin?. I also want to spend a night on a houseboat as this looks unmissable.

My 4 year old son would certainly love to go and see some elephants (he has been on an elephant in Thailand and would surely love to do it again) and maybe tigers if possible?

We would need to be back in Bangalore by the 16th to fly home. Also, any explanations of how we would need to travel inbetween areas would be really helpful. When I travel alone I'm happy to to plan as I go, but with a 4 year old it's always prudent to plan in advance..

Thanks in advance for your help.

Chris

Hi Chris,

BAsed on your interests, you may fly to Cochin Or Trivandrum and you could do the following which will make sure all the flavours what you are looking for will be addressed.

Kovalam / Cherai beach / Varakala [ Near Trivandrum]. Add Kanyakumari for 1 Day for the excellent Sunris
Alleppey / Kumarakom [ for Houseboats]
Periyar / Thekkady [For Wildlife & Scenery]

In the 15 days you have, abovesaid plan could be done in a relaxed pace.

Just make sure you Fly until Cochin Or Trivandrum as Bangalore to Ernakulam will be 10 hours journey in train.

Hope this helps

According to me you can it 2 ways:
!st option
Fly or travel by train to trivandrum
visit kovalam, varkala which is nearby to trivandrum,

take a train or bus to alleppy nd from there to kumarakon and then you can visit thekkady and from there to munnar.

come down to cocin visit fort cocin and from there to bangalore.

2nd option would be travelling to cochin and from there you can travel till trivandrum in the route mentioned in option 1.

Hi,

Thanks to both of you for your help.

So a good route would be?

Arrive Bangalore
Fly to Trivandrum
Some time on the bach at Varkala
Houseboat 1 night at Alleppy
Go to Thekkady
Got to Munnar
Go to Cochin
Fly back to Bangalore

Would it also be worth stopping at Kollam.

Does this sound doable in 2 weeks?

Also, is it easy to find buses to take me to these locations when I am in India, or do I need to book in Advance?

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Once you explore Kumarakom Or Alleppey, Kollam might not be impressive. It might be skipped.

It's all going to be short journeys in bus except that cochin to Munnar will take around 4hours in bus and Munnar to Thekkady , around 31/2 hours.

You may opt for Cab for those circuits for comfort.

Happy Planning.
