Arriving in Kathgodam at 0730h and need to proceed to Kausani.

1. Are there any buses (public or private) that are available for the Kathgodam-Kausani route?

2. Any shared taxis ply on the Kathgodam-Kausani route?

And finally, can I catch a bus from Kausani to go to Lohajung?

Timings and other details would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you still need this info?

(Would have been better off posting in the Uttarakhand forum)

I'm presuming you're arriving by train, so get off at Haldwani. It's where all the up-country transport originates. The UTC bus station is 1 km from the RS. KMOU office is nearby. Share-jeeps park in a side-road nearby.
You'll get something destined for Kausani (likely headed for Gwaldam or beyond).

Were you thinking of overnighting at Kausani? Because otherwise you can head straight for Lohajang. You'll miss the Delhi-Lohajang bus though, so take any transport heading for Kausani/Gwaldam and change.

Same applies if you're staying at Kausani. Actually, in that case you could catch the Delhi-Lohajang bus there too, although it probably passes through very early morning (check locally).

@Dilliwala - Thanks for the info! Yes, I'm arriving by KGM Express. Plan to spend the night in Kausani. On the following morning the plan is to proceed to Lohajung. Seems like the Delhi-Lohajung bus would be a great option if I can catch it in Kausani (and get a seat).

Are there any local buses that ply between Kausani and Lohajung (or Gwaldam/Tharali/Dewal)?

If the bus doesn't work, then I'm guessing the share-taxis would be my best bet.

The Lohajang bus will discharge passengers all along the route Haldwani onwards (as well as take on a few) so you should be able to board it at Kausani.
KMOU may also have a bus heading that way, you'd have to ask at Kausani.

Other than that, there'll be through-jeeps for Gwaldam and maybe Tharali. Take what you get and change. You may have to change again at Deval to get a jeep to Lohajang.

My plan for kumayun is similar for end sept 2015...
26 sept- kathgodam to nainital,
27 sept- nainital to binsar,
28 sept- stay at binsar,
29 sept- binsar to munsiyari,
30 sept- munsiyari,
1st oct- munsiyari to kaushani,
2nd oct- kaushani to kathgodam, night train to delhi.
For this itinerary, is it possible to have shared jeep? From point to point?
Is the itinerary ok, or some more places can be added? I am not interested to see patal bhuvaneshwar or any temple.
[i have another plan for himachal, but the other person is not familiar with high altitudes and extreme weather. So, now primarily focusing on this kumayun region.]

@Dilliwala: Thanks to your excellent advice we got down at Haldwani (instead of Kathgodam) and caught the bus to Kausani from there. Worked out great! The buses fill up in Haldwani itself.

Haldwani to Kausani (bus fare Rs 190):
[Buses line up just outside the railway station; 3 min walking distance; Buses bound for Bageshwar go through Kausani. Most leave in the morning hours (6am to 8am or so).; These are private 2X2 buses with cushioned seats and limited legroom but not too bad. 6 hours]

Kausani to Lohajung: This stretch turned out a bit tricky. Your best bet is to catch a morning bus to Tharali. There's a Nanda Devi Express that passes through Kausani but be warned that its arrival is unpredictable and can vary between 5:30am and 7:30am so get there early and be prepared to wait a bit. Shared taxis to Tharali are NOT a real option (unless you get really lucky) so don't count on it.
From Tharali there are plenty of shared taxis going up to Deval (Rs 30).
From Deval there are plenty of shared taxi's going to Lohajung (Rs 50).

Fares and information current as of June 2015.

Were these KMOU buses? Or some other company?

These were all private buses, not KMOU.
