Hi all

debating whether to take Konkan train direct from Goa to Mangalore, or spend a week heading south via Golkarna, Jog Falls, Udupi - only concern is arranging bookings by train. Or is it more convenient to catch buses for this stretch.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how long to stay in above places.

Thanks in advance for any replies

If you have time to plan and make reservations - go for trains.

Buses are more frequent, but not very comfortable. If you don't mind that pushing and jostling for space getting on a bus - then go for it!

Many buses are operated by private enterprises in that part of the country. They may or may not keep schedules; or stop consistently at regulated bus stops! You may need to negotiate when and where you want to get off.

There is also a state run bus company (Karnataka State) that is more predictable; you can reserve seats on a computerized reservation system (not on the internet AFAIK, but in small stores scattered all over).
