Itinerary for travel to North-East India

We are planning a week-long holiday sometime around mid-December to explore the Kanchenjunga mountain range. My husband and I are nature enthusiasts and seeking some time off from Mumbai amidst the peaceful environs of Sikkim and nearby places.

1. Need suggestions for the itinerary that we can plan to and fro Kolkata.
2. But naturally, we cannot entirely cover NE India at one go in a week's time, so do suggest places that we can visit besides Darjeeling.

Any inputs will help me plan this much-needed vacation better. At the moment, I am not sure which route to take and whether I should cover Sikkim, Arunachal, Assam etc.

Look forward to your replies.

NE is time consuming for travel! So, in 7 days, only one or two states could be seen (not covered cool: ). Choose which ones you want. You will need inner line permit in many places, unless flying into the area. Also, mid-December will be foggy (for road travel) and possibly many X-mas festivals. Arunachal and Assam are NE. Sikkim is on its own I guess (altitude, culture, etc.)!
