hello,

my partner and I are coming to India (1st time) for 6-7 weeks during November and December and the New Year! and are buying the tickets soon. We were hoping to get some opinions about the arrival and exit cities as we're not sure about our itinerary.
These are (roughly) the places we want to see;

Kolkata
Varanasi
Agra
Delhi
Jaipur
Jaisalmer
Udaipur
Ajanta
Mumbai
Goa
Hampi
Kerala
Trivandrum
Pondicherry (maybe Auroville as well)
Chennai

So the plan is to land in Kolkata and leave from Chennai, but are wondering if that is too much for a 6 week trip. We have 7 weeks really, but were thinking of also visiting Sri lanka for a week (that's why Trivandrum is on the list), depending on the feasability of the 6 week plan. I've been reading the forums and it seems that some people do move from place to place every 2-3 days, what do people think about that? Our travelling styles are different, partner - likes to move fast, I - take it easy.
We are terrible at making decisions, and we don't have to go to Sri Lanka. We just don't want to do any back tracking, that's why we're not landing in Delhi (because we really want to see Varanasi).

having said all that, any alternative itinerary suggestions are welcome, please.

budget style is low-mid, travelling by train.

Thanks! ^^(-_-)^^

Thumbs up Great Trip

Happy planning! I would add, from my very biased opinion, the Bangalore/Mysore area in south India. That's where I am from. my home town, even though I lived in Madras (Chennai)

But they are more relaxed, weather tends to be milder, and just wonderful local people. I love that place.

If you want any ideas about that area, which is real close to Chennai, by the way, let me know. Spending three-four days in Bangalore/Mysore should be sufficient as part of your larger itinery.
