Itinerary advice for kerala

We are planning for a family vacation to kerala this mid december. the duration is 4-5 days and will be starting from coimbatore.

hoping to know about the places to visit in kerala from the experts who has experienced it. we will be traveling in a car.

thanks velu for the reply.. i am interested mostly in the places of nature.. love to visit some wildlife sanctuaries aswell.. heard about mudhumalai/bandipur.. but got stuck from there where to go

beaches, hills and temples in the order

Munnar is a hill station which is meant to be very nice.

Thekaddy wildlife reserve is also very popular.

Varkala is a beach that isn't as touristy as Kovalam.

Cochin is worth taking a look.

Allepey to Kollam area for the backwaters, nature, chilled.

Of course you won't be able to do all that, so I would choose one of two places and make the most of it.
I have the wisdom of Buddha combined with the body of Peter Andre - oh...no..it's the other way round..

If you are looking for more of Famous Tourist spots

You can do the following:-

Itenary 1:-


Day 1 :-

Coimbatore-Guruvayur[Temple / Beaches/ ELephant Enclosure with 55 Elephants] -Thrissur[Temple] Night Stay @ Thrissur

Day 2:-
Athirapally Waterfalls[Very scenic Waterfalls . Check for the waterlevel in Thrissur itself to avoid disappointment-Kaladi Adi Sankara Mutt[For Calmness and Scenic & Big River-Cochin for Night Stay

Day 3:-
-Cochin City Exploration + Chotanikkara Temple -Cochin for Night Stay

Day 4:-

Alappuzha House boat , Night Stay

You can do a Balancing and make it 5 days Trip.

Itenary 2:-

Day 1:-

Coimbatore - Palakkadu- Nelliyambathy Hill ranges [70 kms from palakkadu] - Malampuzha Dam , Night Stay at Palakkadu

Day 2:-

Palakkadu-Thrissur-Guruvayur . Night Stay at Guruvayur

Day 3:-

Guruvayur - Nilambur-Gudalur-Bandipura NP [ Forest Safari]- Stay at Sulthan Bathery

Day 4 & 5:-

Explore Wayanad Tourist places [On this I did written many a posts . Please do a search in Indiamike for My id "pmvelu".]


Hope this helps.

And there are more options available but I did shared the samples itenaries assuming you are first timer to Kerala. If you already experienced the main circuits, Post here I will come up with more places on North Kerala / Malabar area which will be more virgin and with less tourist crowd.

Hi Velu,

just dropped in after a long time.. wanted to thank you for your help

my itinerary was,
cbe-Palakkad-Thrissur-Guruvayur(stay)-Nilambur-Wayanad(stay)-Sulthan Bathery-Gudalur(stay)-Gundelpet-Hasanur-Sathy

enjoyed tonnes.. the ride thru the Forrest at night and early morning was awesome.. saw elephants, tonnes of deers, bison.
