Is 4 Weeks Enough time??

Hi, i'm travelling to india and flying into Chennai. It's my first time in the country and have no idea what to expect, even after reading loads of stuff already. Anyway my question is, I have budgeted four weeks for my India trip, and wonder if i am being unrealistic with the places i want to see in that time frame. The problem is i fly in and out of Chennai, not Delhi as i'd have liked. Do you think i'll have time to see all these places without being constantly on the move??

Chennai - Varanasi, Agra, Delhi, Jaipur, plus no doubt a few other places that i discover along the way - back to Chennai.

Not planning on staying in Chennai for more than a day or two before heading off, and can't see me being in Delhi for more than one or two days.

What do you think? I'm sorry if i'm being vague - first timer alert!
Thanks!

Hi Susfloos, Welcome to Indiamike
You shouldn't have any problems, don't know how you're planning on travelling between these places, but 2days/1night is fine for Agra, 2/3 nights Jaipur, a few nights Varanasi to suit you, a couple of nights Delhi so adding on a few nights in Chennai only uses about 14 of your nights Add on a few nights for train travel if thats your mode & it still leaves you at least a week to play with,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Well, having come all the way to Chennai, it would be a shame not to spend a little time to explore these parts...Chennai has a lot to offer. I'd suggest you spend a few days around Chennai to see places like Mahabalipuram. Also the temples that you see in Tamil Nadu are unique in India and the entire atmosphere is very spiritual.
I'd suggest spend atleast a week down south and then you still have 3 weeks to do do Delhi-Agra-Jaipur and more of Rajasthan, if you like.

Thanks for your help. I feel confident now that i'll manage within my time frame. Originally had planned 6 weeks, with a side trip to Goa included, but have had to cut down. I would like to spend a bit of time around Chennai if we can, see some of the coast. Might leave that to the end though so i know how much time i have.
THanks everyone. Am excited and nervous, but just can't wait!

We do four weeks

Each traveler is different and so no set time works for everyone. First time I went was for two weeks and that was too short. Next time I went for three weeks and that too was too short. So I have settled for the magical 4 weeks and that has seemed to work the best for me.

Of course one cannot do everything we want and neither are we able. So pick and choose, try and eat and drink properly so you stay healthy and just enjoy the time and places. Everything else is colored bubbles!!!!
