Hi Guys, we live in Wellington NZ and will be visiting India for about 5 weeks in October 2010. Looking for advice and guidance. I am 59 and my wife is 50, we consider ourselves to be young at heart. We would like to visit Kerala, Goa, Rajistan, Agra, Banares and anything else in that time. Probably start and leave from New Delhi.http://www.indiamike.com/india/image...ies/matrix.gif

Cool India October 2010

Hey Santos, Good to hear from you. Basically given the month being October we wondered which would be the best route from Delhi. Do we do Delhi, then Agra, then Rajistan, then Banares and then go south. Also we are keen to go on the railway on an overnight trip, so which is a good one to do, we want to go on the waters in Kerala. Do we just go on a day trip or stay overnight (some people say that night time is no good because of insects etc).
In reality we want to experience India, smell it and live it and if possible go off the beaten track a little.
We really appreciate your views.
Many thanks.

1)October is a great time to visit india. Not too cold or hot and non frequent showers(receding monsoon) makes the time perfect. You can proceed in any direction you want.Delhi-benares-agra-rajasthan.Because benares is to east of agra and rajasthan is to west of agra.use mapmyindia.com or google maps to get more clear idea babout routes.
2)For railway you can book tickets through irctc.co.in from anywhere. For availability of trains use erail.in.If you want opinions on which trains are better and which should be taken just post your question here.
3)YEs you can use railways to travel throughout india. All the places you have mentioned have rail access and it shouldnt be difficult.
4)Dont worry about insects. They wont get into houseboats.Basically houseboats are parked at jetty in night which is quite a clean place. It depends on quality of houseboat you take for presence of bed bugs ,mosquitoes etc. You can also take ferry service during daytime.Since your idea is to mingle with people i suggest you take public ferries during the day.

Hi everyone,I am going to south India in October2010 for an extended trip maybe until March(I hope),am a solo traveller & would love to meet up with male or female company for short or long term travel. My present plans are very flexible...Kolkata-Varanasi-Chennai & then slowly south & about. I prefer train travel

The Commonwealth Games in Delhi are scheduled 4th-14th October. What effect will this have on tourist infer-structure in Delhi and nearby tourist attractions.

Sure, but doesn't help me since I am not travelling further north than Varanasi. With apologies, perhaps I have missed your point.
