So my partner and I are flying in on the 28th of December. We already have most our itinerary planned, and have some formalities and family commitments to tend to. However we have a little time by ourselves to visit either Hyderabad or Lucknow.

We'd love to do some sight seeing and interact with the locals, we both like photography and don't want to go full tourist. We just want a destination to help us settle in and experience the culture.

Please note Hyderabad or Lucknow will be the first thing on our itinerary before travelling elsewhere the wedding etc. We will be landing at either city.

Which city will keep us more active and is worth looking at?

Is it your first time in India?
Where else are you going?
Why these two cities?

I also wonder the same . Slightly strange choice of cities for a brief visit..

Both cities have amazing food and things to see. I would however choose Hyderabad as it is better connected ( if flying in ) .

I have only been to Hyderabad ,so this is very one sided.
It is a great place to spend some time ,I was there for a week and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The food is wonderful.
There are many things to see and do.Golconda fort, charminar and a host of other great places.
The traffic can be a touch problematic but the people are really friendly.
Bidar is a great place to visit and is about 3 hours away by bus
I would definetlly go back, but I also want to see Luknow.
Happy travels Simon.

We want cheap flights and these two cities both have budget airlines flying to them on the dates which we would like to travel. It is my second time in India and her first.

Very wild guess.

Are you flying in from Dubai?

Help me pick between 1 of these 4 Indian cities

My partner and I are flying to India on December 13th and need help to pick between one of the following 4 Indian cities to visit: Lucknow, Hyderabad, Kolkata or Chennai.

The reason why we are in this predicament is because we need cheap flights at that late time of year and these 4 airports are the only we can find within our airfare budget.

We will be landing at one of these places, spending a few days exploring the city and then fly off to the north to do Delhi, Agra and Jaipur for 10 days. We need to be in Bhubeneswar by the 25th of December.

This is my second time to India and my partners first time visiting the country. We are both 20 years of age and this is our first time travelling together. Obviously since most of our time is going time spent up north, we will only be able to spend a few days at only one of these cities.

Any advice on where to go or information on these places would be greatly appreciated. Please note we will be landing here, so my partner's first impressions of India will be established at this place.

We visited all these cities and my choice is Kolkata.
There is enough to see and do while the area around Sudder Street is nice to stay.

For the rest of your trip, take a direct flight to Jaipur, see Cleartrip, then Agra and end in Delhi.
Take a plane or train from there to Bhubaneswar.

Lucknow is well connected to Delhi and other cities you wish to visit by train - and it is roughly situated in the area that is the focus of your visit. That can be a positive or negative - based on how you see things. It's a nice city with some history and things to offer.

If you like Carnatic music then Chennai is the place to be in December.

What is correct date ? 28th December, or 13th December ? Cheap flights from Asia to India have many many hidden charges.

I'd also vote for Hyderabad over Lucknow.
