We are planing a honeymoon in march. I have booked rail tickets. We will be reaching Chandigarh on 7 Mar at 6 AM by Barmer Kalka Express and our return tickets are on 13 Mar From Kalka at 9:45 PM by Kalka Barmer Express. So we have total 7 days. I thought to visit Manali and Shimla as both are very good place to visit. I also want to travel in train from Kalka to Shimla, I heard the view from train is breathtaking. So I request you guys please make a iternity for me. Thanks in advance.

Thanks vikramkyy, but I want to enjoy rather than travelling a lot , so I want to stick with Manali and Shimla only. I want a favor from you, please tell me..

1. Where should I go, Manali first or Shimla first.
2. What are the places to visit in each city?
3. How many days are enough for each city?

One more thing I want to go Shimla by train which starts from Kalka in early in the Morning, but I will reach Kalka at 6AM. So what would be your suggestion.

Thanks

As you are reaching Kalka first I would suggest you to do Kalka - Shimla first. There are trains to Shimla which may suit your arrival at Kalka:

101 Rail Motor Kalka Dep 11:35 Shimla Arr 15:40
255 Himalayan Queen Kalka Dep 12:10 Shimla Arr 17:20

It depends on your mood how much time you wish to give at each town, but three days each should be enough for the purpose!

Somewhere else I have mentioned the places which you could visit during your Manali Stay. Please visit the link.

Barmer Kalka Express arrives at Chaindigarh at 6am. But I am sure this train will be late, so for safe side I thought to go to Manali in day so I we can see the Natural scenery on the way.

I have planned to reach Manali in Evening. We will stay in Hotel at night and in Morning we will go to Solang, Rohtang Pass by car. In evening we will be back to Hotel. Next day we will visit some local sights(Which you can suggest. BTW I have seen your post) and I evening we will set off for Naggar and we will stay there in night and in morning will visit and in evening leave for Chandigarh and will reach there by late night and stay in Hotel.

Is this fine itinerary for Manali? Please share your view.
The only problem is transportation, I do not have any idea for that.

Thanks

I would suggest following:

Day 1: Reach Manali
Day 2: Rohtang Visit - Not sure if it'll be open in March. It'll take you whole day for visit
Day 3: Morning Hadimba Temple - Vashishta Kund - after noon visit Manikaran - Beautiful Drive - Night stay at Naggar Castle
Day 4: Visit Naggar Castle, Sundari Temple, Art Gallery and leave for Kalka in afternoon
Day 5: Early morning Toy train to Shimla - afternoon visit Viceregal Lodge and spend time on Mall Road
Day 6: Kufri/Chail visit and back to Shimla
Day 7: Naldhera/Tatapani visit and reach to Kalka by 9:00pm to catch your train.

Thanks sd_amd_us. This is as like as I thought. But there are few glitches:-

1. Are there Bus service available from Manali to Naggar and Naggar to Chandigarh?
2. Will Kufri/Chail will be good this time because I heard that there will be mud at this time?
3. How should I get back to Kalka, by cab or bus?

If I want to spend only two days in Shimla then where should I go, Naldhera or Kufri? And how many hours it takes?
It will be great if you tell me good hotels in Manali and Shimla so I can do advance booking.

Thanks again.

Obviously car will be best option but there are buses from/to Shimla - Manali and Manali-Chandigadh-Delhi. Bus going from Shimla to Manali will sure have 'Kalka' as pickup/drop point. You can then rent a car for local siteseeing or stop by on mall road at Manali/Shimla and search for local tour. Once you're in Manali, Vashishta and Hadmibadevi can be covered by auto. You can check bus timings and local day tour by hptdc for both Shimla and Manali here --- http://hp.gov.in/hptdc/Availability.aspx
Mud at Kufri/Naldhera usually during Monsoon but not in March.
I've stayed at Combermere(Shimla), Chail Palace - Chail, Naggar Castle(Naggar) and would definitely recommend them. In Manali, I stayed at Hotel Kunzum on Mall Road but will not recommend for honeymoon.

Naldhera-Kufri-Chail all three can be done in a day - Chail is farthest about 50KMs from Shimla. You can stay one night in Chail Palace - nice place. Kufri will be on the way to Chail from Shimla but Naldhera will be about 15 KMs out of the way.

1. @trekkinglove, My suggestions were based upon your post & preferences. You have mentioned in Post #5:
Quote:
One more thing I want to go Shimla by train which starts from Kalka in early in the Morning, but I will reach Kalka at 6AM. So what would be your suggestion.
2. @sb_amd_us, I am afraid the OP would have to travel a lot by the route suggested by you! As per your suggestion, OP would have to go to Manali first, then come back to Chandigarh then to Kalka to catch toy train!

3. Further,
Quote:
Bus going from Shimla to Manali will sure have 'Kalka' as pickup/drop point.
Buses from Shimla to Manali goes via Mandi and Kullu; not via Kalka!

4. At another place OP is writing (again in Post #5):
Quote:
I want to enjoy rather than traveling a lot
I am afraid, they won't be enjoying much and traveling would be too much. OP would not be able to reach up to Rohtang Pass during the period due to heavy snow in the region.

Another option is:

Chandigarh > Manali > Naggar > Kullu > Shimla > Kalka > Chandigarh.
Shimla to Kalka by toy train! Rest of the route by bus/cab!!

If the route suits the OP, itinerary could be suggested.

My humble suggestion: Please re-plan your program and then come back. Forum is there to help you!

I would also advise you to arrive at Shimla first. Manali is so beautiful that you may find Shimla a bit shabbier compared to Manali.

If you want to save time, take a taxi from Chandigarh and reach Shimla within 3 hours.

You would love to visit a very informative thread, titled Shimla - Manali (Honeymoon) Trip in FEB, in which experts of the route have shared their experiences! It would help you in re-planning your tour!

I would suggest you to give it a try!

@Prakaant
I know, I said to travel by toy train. But I am not sure if I can reach Kalka on time as you know Indian rails get late always. And the trains you have suggested are very late, I mean viewing nature in morning is different than afternoon .
And your Option is good except one thing that is toy train is not there.

I have made my plan

1Day: Morning arrive to Chandigarh, get a bus/cad for Manali.
1Day: Reach Manali by late in evening, go to Hotel(really want to know a good hotel for Honeymoon couple) and book a Cab for further stay in Manali.
2Day: Early in the morning go to Rohtang pass and while coming back visit Solang also. Evening come back to Manali and will visit the near by sights(You guys can help).
3Day: Morning will visit all local sights(here also need your help guys). Evening we will leave for Naggar Castle. Stay there overnight.
4Day: Morning visit Naggar Castle for whole day and leave for Chandigarh. Stay in there.
5Day: Leave early in the morning for SHIVALK DLX EXP. Reach Shimla early in noon.
5Day: Stay in Hotel(same request as I did for Manali ). Will visit local sights and book a cab for further stay.
6Day: Morning will go to Mashobra-Naldehra-Tatapani(are these places worth visiting?) back in evening and visit nearby sights.
7Day: Morning will got to Kufri-Fagu.
7Day: Afternoon will back to Shimla and check out from Hotel and leave for Chail and before evening will leave for Kalka for 9:45 pm train.

If you guys think I can make it better please suggest something.
And one more thing do I need to do a advance book at Naggat Castle or will get room.

Thanks guys for your suggestion I really appreciate.

Sorry, on the Hotel point, as I am too old to know about Honeymoon hotels.

Nice program, but I would again insist that for me coming to Chandigarh from Naggar and going back to Shimla is little bit impractical.

In stead of that you may consider reaching Kullu from Naggar and taking bus to Shimla. And you may do a return journey by Toy Train. You would be getting the same scenic view.

Day 7 seems to be very crammy!
