sept 25th to october 5th is a good time to visit Kashmir although it will start to cool down a bit in early October in the higher elevation regions of Kashmir such as Gulmarg and Sonmarg.

Roughly I would recommend that you spend your 8 nights as follows:

3 days - Srinagar
3 days - Pahalgam
1 day - Gulmarg
1 day - Sonmarg

In Srinagar the ideal stay experience would be to stay in a houseboat in Dal lake or the less busy Nageen lake. Houseboat stays can be expensive so if you are on a budget then perhaps you can stay one night in a Srinagar houseboat and 2 nights in a budget hotel. In Srinagar you must do a Shikara boat ride and see the Shikara boat vendors who move about in their small boats looking for customers for their fruits/vegitables etc.

Srinagar is also famous for many gardens and specially the historic Nishat and Shalimar garden.

Pahalgam is considered to be the most scenic tourist region in Kashmir and a pony ride in Pahalgam is a popular tourist activity.

Higher elevation Gulmarg and the nearby Khilanmarg mountain is the site of winter tourism and in the winter months tourists flock to Gulmarg to experience snow.

Sonmarg can also be done as a day trip from Srinagar or skipped if you prefer to do less travel in Kashmir.

J & k

staying in Srinagar I can recommend houseboats SeaHawk Group or stay with the Shalla family in a private room there house is located on land in the Dal lake area booths close to the boulevard I have Contact to both of them.

If you are really into nature I would recommend you to explore Naranak instead of Palgram wich seems to be very crowded although you won't feel isolated from the world.
Naranak by the other hand is still a hidden pearl and primitiv with local farmers who welcomes you not much to do except relax and breath in the fresh air and look at the incredible shootingstars at night. Both could be don i 2 nights.

Going to Gulmarg this year is very cold do to snow up there but if you do go and stay there is several options for hotel accomadations the option would be to do it as a day trip from Srinagar up and down 3 hours in all depending on traffic.

Sonamarg IS one of the most beautiful places in that area but can also be don on a day trip or on the way to or from Naranak.

Remember to see the flooting vegetable market on Dal Lak every day early in the morning this can be arrange with a Shikara.

I have good and safe Contact in Srinagar if you like
