I got no comment on my last post regarding India/ Sri Lanka so thought I would try again here.

I arrive in Mumbai aound 22:00 on 12/07/19. I will go to Villa Parle station and take a train to Vasai Rd for the Saturday morning 03:40 departure to Ernakulam JN. From there I will head to Ernakulam N where I can take a train to Coimbatore on sunday morning arrIving around lunchtime.
From there a bus to Palani, which seem to be frequent enough and then on to Kodaikanal. I am not sure how often they depart to Kodaikanal but with luck I will arrive sunday night.
I have booked a return flight from Madurai to Colombo departing thursday 18/07 and returning on 1/08. I stay overnight in Madurai and return to Mumbai the next day.
I booked my tickets with Cleartrip for better or for worse.
In case I have missed something, please comment.
Greetings,
Homerus.

Unless you want to have a really long train journey, you could fly Mumbai - Kochi - assuming you have a reason to go to Kochi. As per present plan you're only transiting in Kochi.

To be honest I do not mind doing 1 long train journey, all part of the India experience and I doubt it will be my last.
In 2014 I came into Mumbai and transferred to the domestic terminal and stayed overnight. I flew down to Trivarandrum the next morning by which time I was almost dead from boredom.

Homerus.

Well, after much howling and gnashing of teeth,I cancelled my flight from Madurai to Colombo and rebooked a flight from Mumbai to Colombo. So,no train ride south.
I arrive in Colombo on the 13th of july instead of the 18th. The plan was to depart to Trincomalee on the 20th,onwards to Anuradhapura and Kandy staying 2 night's each, then on to Ella for 4 nights, back to
Colombo for the last night. My accommodation is booked but can be cancelled. Part of me is thinking of heading first to Ella for 3 nights, squeezing the rest of the trip in but spending 3 nights in Kandy before
the final night in Colombo.
So much to see. Would like a little advice, please.

Unless you're an avid trekker, you won't need 4 nights in Ella - beautiful scenery but not a lot to do/see/eat.

Trinco (specifically Nilaveli) is worthy of 3 nights.

Kandy is great, but again 2 nights should be enough.

Aragum Bay is also worth visiting if you can fit it in after Trinco.

Thanks for your reply,NomadicBoo.
Perhaps I will head first to Ella for 2 days, then Nuwara Elisa, Kandy,Dambulla and on to,Trincomalee. After that I can start scratching my head.
I am not a beach person and I quit the drink 2 years ago,so partying does nothing for me. Perhaps I should read my Sri Lanka guide, for some inspiration.
For a little Island, there seems to be a lot to do. I think a visit to one of the nature parks is a must.

I am going to Ella for 2 nights .

3 nights in the following order: Nuwara Eliya, Trincomalee,Anuradhapura,Dambulla.

Kandy for 2 nights and a final night in Colombo.

I have asked for someone to book me a train passage from Nuwara Eliya via Colombo to Trincomalee.

So that is the plan.

Greetings,

Homerus.
