Hi All,

My wife and I are planning a round the world trip starting in March 2012. Im having a hard time deciding where India will fit into our trip based on weather.

Our current plan is
3/5 3/17 Japan (Flights to Japan are booked)

3/17 4/13 China, Hong Kong, Macau

4/13 5/11 India- Calcutta, Darjeeling, Varnasi , Delhi, Agra, Aurangabad, Mumbai

5/11- 7/10 South East Asia

7/10 - ? Africa, Middle East, Europe, back home

As you can see we back tracking from India to SEA. I thought it would be best to avoid the Monsoons. Im afraid that mid-April to mid-May is going to be unbearably hot. Im thinking since we have to backtrack anyways why not put India directly after China. That would put us in India mid-march to mid-April. Is a month earlier really going to make that much of a difference?

My wife and I are in our late 20s and Im budgeting around $150 USD per day in India. We will get around India via flights and trains.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes that does make a difference. The Indian summer begins in april and weather starts to get hotter. Delhi ,Mumbai,Varanasi will be hot and Darjeeling will be crowded .May,june, july can be unbearable .Yes its a wise decision considering cheap flight to Bangkok from india (considering china)- the gateway of South East Asia and dont worry about backtracking .

Budget $150 is good enough.

Lightbulb

You're pretty much stuck with hot weather in India unless you move up your trip to next week It will also be hot in S.E. Asia.

You seem to have allowed less than a month for India & you might have too many places listed for that time. However, once you get there you can decide if you want to head north where it's cooler. Or to hill stations which are scattered all over India. (google Hill stations India).

We did an ATW trip this year but had 10 weeks & didn't include 70% of what you are planning. Our first stop was Hong Kong. But we are much older & slower than you! Your trip sounds ambitious & great.

I do have one recommendation which you may not need. I tried but was unable to book our major flights on my own since they are all open-jaw tickets & we landed & left from different places (one example, we arrived in Delhi from Kathmandu & left from Mumbai to Amsterdam). I found an excellent company that specializes in this type of ticketing www.airtreks.com They called me & we worked it out together & their price for first rate airlines was excellent. We did internal flights & trains on our own.

I'd have done Florida-Africa-Europe-Middle-East-India-SEA-China-Japan-back.

USD150/day is more than sufficient.

As you have booked your FL-NRT flight. I'd improvise. Japan-China-SEA. Bangkok is an excellent gateway to Europe. Fly to Europe; End Europe in Paris, London because both are excellent gateways to Africa. Or, if you care, take a boat from Spain to Morocco and start Africa there, meander through Africa take a flight into Jordan, Do Isreal, Middle East arrive in Dubai. Fly into India. Take flight back from India to Florida.

If you stick to one alliance for flights, you could fly back for free at the end of the trip

Thanks Camelgirl. We have looked into Airtreks.com, but like the flexibility of just buying flights as we go.
