Dear all

This is my first post.
Girlfriend and I are planning our first trip (My first trip, her second, she was in Dharamsala) to India. After reading several guide books and spending days to check through the IndiaMike threads we came up with the following plan (Trip starts either in May or September, see below):

Day 1 Arrival in Delhi
Day 2 Nighttrain to Varanasi
Day 3,4 Varanasi
Day 4,5 Bodhgaya
Day 6 Fly to Delhi and transfer by train or taxi to Agra
Day 7 Agra, Train to Jodhpur
Day 8,9 Jodhpur
Day 10,11 Jaisalmer
Day 12 Transer to Delhi
Day 13 Fly to Leh
Day 14 Leh
Day 15 Leh - Lamayuru or Nubra (organised jeep tour)
Day 16 Lamayuru or Nubra - Leh (organised jeep tour)
Day 17 Leh - Tso Moriri (organised jeep tour)
Day 18 Tso Moriri - Tso Kar (organised jeep tour)
Day 19 Tso Kar - Leh (organised jeep tour)
Day 20 Fly Leh - Delhi
Day 21 Fly back home

I would highly appreciate your feedback on the following:

- We would want to start our trip eiter in May with the final days in Ladakh by End May, beginning june, or in September when we would put the Ladakh section at the beginning of our trip.
Is the weather for Ladakh better End May or in September? Is it more comfortable to travel in Rajasthan, Varanasi in May (hot) or September (wet)?

- For Ladakh would you recommend Lamayuru or Nubra valley?

- My girlfriend really wants to go to Bodhgaya (she is tibetan and buddhist). Is one and a half day enough for a visit of the temples and the bodhi tree? (we do not want to go meditating just visiting)

- Is our Rajahstan section with Agra, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer in 6 days doable or is it too stressed and shall we skip Jaisalmer?

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I would recommend that at least, one side of Manali - Leh highway you do on road. It will be journey of lifetime. It has breathtaking landscape and incredible experience. It will eat lot of your time travelling but this is the journey that people take year after year and still crave to go back again.

May will be quite hot especially in the plains of Varanasi & Jaisalmer. I guess Septmber would be better for the plains as well as for Ladakh. It is not easy to predict the rain volume but generally north does not receive so much rainfall. 2010 was quite different in this regard as most rivers in the north were flooded, including Ganga and many highways were closed.

If you opt to come in May, then the manali-leh highway may be closed due to snow in the high passes. But the flights will be operational. Weather wise, May is safest but be ready to bear the heat around 42 deg C or more in Varanasi or Jaisalmer. Also, in may the Nubra valley may be not accessible due to the Khardungla snow conditions. I'm not sure about this though, please cross check this. Best is to call the local guy where you will be staying to know the snow conditions as every year is different.
