Hi all, Im am going to Jaipur this fall for a friend's wedding. I unfortunately only ended up with 11 full days in India , but here are my tentative travel plans. Please, if anyone has any advice??

Day 1: arrive in Delhi early morning & spend that day in Delhi. spend 1 night.
Day 2: Go to Agra (via hired driver) in the early morning. See the Taj and the Agra Fort. In the evening, drive to Jaipur.
Spend this night plus 4 more nights (Days 3-6: 4 full days) in Jaipur. This is where the 3-day wedding is, so only the first of the 4 entire days in Japiur will not involve the wedding, so I dont know if we should sightsee in Jaipur or travel to any nearby scenic spots, since we will have the daytime on the wedding days since most events will be in the evening. I do want a chance to shop for some indian outfits to wear to the wedding at some time before the wedding.
Day 7: in the morning: drive to Delhi, then spend another day shopping/touring Delhi, or do some sightseeing along the drive in the region between Jaipur and Delhi.
That evening, Take either the overnight bus or train from Delhi to Dharamsala. (perhaps train on the way over through "scenic areas" and overnight bus on the way back from there)
Day 8-10 (3 full days) in Dharamsala and surrounding areas. The Dalai Lama does not seem to have anything on his schedule during these days so perhaps he will be in town and we can see him
Evening of day 10: overnight bus back to Delhi. Spend Day 11 in Delhi,
Day 12: Early morning flight leaving Delhi.

Well, what do you think of this itinerary? Are two overnight train/bus rides ok?? (we are in our late 20s-early 30s). I know this is really not enough days to see all the India that I wanted to see, but I have chosen the most important things (Jaipur for my friends wedding, and Dharamsala for my interest in Tibetan Buddhism).

Consider the following train: -

Train 2413 departs Jaipur daily at 16:15 and gets to Chakki Bank (Pathankot) at 06:18 the following morning.

First Class Air con = Rs 2431
2-tier air con = Rs 1290
3-tier air con = Rs 837
Sleeper Class = Rs 317 (not air con)

Chakki Bank station is about 2 - 3 Kms. from Pathankot station.

From Pathankot you can take the scenic Kangra Valley Railway to a station called Kangra, (17 Kms. from Dharamsala).

Trains leave Pathankot for Kangra at the following times.

Pathankot 07:00, Kangra 11:08.
Pathankot 09:50, Kangra 14:10.

There is only 2nd class unreserved carriages on the trains to Kangra, the fare will be less than Rs50.

On paper it all looks OK, Timings etc nice & continuous, BUT, in India things seldom run nice & continuous,,,,,,,,,,,
With all the chaos & confusion, and there is no way to by-pass it, It makes catching trains & buses, shopping & sightseeing like nowhere else on earth,,,,,,,,,,,,,
