I am getting transferred from Delhi to Bangalore, and need to get my car to Bangalore. I am cosidering driving down and also enjoy some sights along the way.

Here are some details:

1. The big question - the route. Which will be a better route, both in terms of road conditions and in terms of sight-seeing. Time is not a big constraint, as I have planned 7-8 days for the whole trip.

One option is the all-NH route of Delhi --> Agra --> Bhopal --> Nagpur --> Hyderabad --> Bangalore. I know for a fact that the Delhi-Agra and Hyderabad-Bangalore stretches are excellent 4-lane highways, but how is the rest of the route? What are the worthwhile sights along the way? How big a deviation will it be for Khajuraho?

The second option is Delhi --> Alwar --> Sawai Madhopur --> Ujjain --> Indore --> Ahmadnagar --> Pandharpur --> Sangli --> Bijapur --> Hospet --> Chitadurga --> Bangalore. This is obviously not all on NHs, but provides much more scope for visiting tourist spots. Does anyone know how the roads are?

Are there any other routes that can be considered?

2. How safe is the drive? I will either be alone or would be hiring a driver to share the driving duties with me. I will not be driving at night (I need my rest!). I will just be carrying a suitcase of clothes and stuff with me. Are there any routes to completely avoid? I don't mind taking a bad or longer road if it is going to be safer. Particularly, how real is the risk of mugging, armed robbery or carjacking? Also, how real is the naxal threat in AP?

3. Is there any particular tune-up or service that I need to get done on my car before I set out? I drive a Hyundai i10 with Automatic Transmission. Also - I have fitted non-stock tubeless tyres. Is it a big problem getting punctures on tubeless tyres fixed outside of the metro cities?

Route 1: Not recommended at all. Roads beyond Agra all the way till Nagpur are non existent and certainly not safe. You will be traveling through through the Chambal region like Gwalior etc which I would not recommend.

Route 2: Not much knowledge. hyderabad - Bangalore is certainly not 4 laned. There is construction(Road Expansion) going on and loads of diversion.

Another Recommended route is Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmadabad-Mumbai-Bangalore. Most of this is part of the GQ and is 4 laned.

Thumbs up Wow !!

Hi,

I do not know much about this stretch but having butterfly in my tummy to know a person is going to drive his car on these routes.

No road is safe; hence, you have to ensure your safety on roads. How? By being attentive and not putting too much pressure on you by over driving.

Forget about road condition as this is once in a life journey (normally people donít do such activities, though exception are there ).

Naxilties or other dangers elements will be there so better inform people at back-end about your route on a daily basis and keep a constant touch.

Draw a line about the kms you are going to drive. Also understand your car before starting the journey. Also speak to Hyundai and know there dealer and service network on this entire stretch.

Hire a driver who knows how to fix an issue in a car, preferably, Hyundai series.

Keep a first aid kit ready with all normal medications. Do not eat or drink at any food junction you find etc.

These are few suggestions from my side.

Have a happy and safe journey.

Take Care
