Hi Gang,

10 days into my first time in India and I am absolutely loving it!

Just after some advice regarding towns near Rishikesh to spend a few days? I have approx a week up near Rishikesh before I need to return to Delhi for a flight to Goa. Any recommendations?

Is Haridwar a good place to spend a few nights? Can be further away but ideally not too far from Delhi to make my return journey reasonably convenient. Looked at Shimla but seems like a nightmare to get to from Rishikesh.

Definitly after a mountain/natural destination as will have been in Rajasthan entire time up until then.

Thanks!

Mussoorie / Lansdowne / Landour could be your options near Rishikesh.

Rishikesh and Haridwar are both good options, Rishikesh more so for a laid back experience. Haridwar for the hustle bustle experience.

In Rishikesh - Swarg Ashram area would be good. You can also go for some yoga classes there. Some may offer a week long session too. Just walking about and enjoying the Ganga Aarti - both in Rishikesh and Haridwar would be a nice experience. There are a few more destinations near Rishikesh - more like day trips which have been discussed elsewhere.

What Aarosh mentions could be a short trip option too.

Haridwar for the Aarthi for sure. When you dunk do not look at what is in the water. Otherwise I found it to be a dump. There used to be a way to travel there ticketless. Probably no more. There is a rumor of a bar on the road out of Rishikish..
