Question though. (Iím probably being stupid) but how can I still get the toy train this way around? Are you suggesting get a taxi on the morning from Rishikesh directly to Kalka?

NB
Train from Haridwar at 8.35 Superfast Express 12688 to Rorkee change to Superfast Express 12527 to Chandigarh Junction arrives 13.15 then train or taxi to Kalka.

Or train from Haridwar to Ambala to Kalka.

So to explain my confusion...

Iíve been working off these timings for the toy train..

http://www.manalishimlaexpert.com/sh...to-shimla.html

Meaning (if these are correct!) I need to be there super early in the morning.

Reach Ambala in the evening, move to Kalka, stay overnight and take the morning train to Shimla.

Oh! 12.10 is latest on Himalayan Queen, so forget everything I said.
Have you considered staying overnight at Kasauli, I know you like hill stations; https://www.kasauli.net/

Thanks both.

@KK yes - will either stay at kausali, pinjore or Chandigarh seeing as there seems no alternative but to stay overnight near kalka!

There are options to stay near Kalka railway station. However I am not sure if they have online presence.

Thanks all.

I donít think the railway retiring rooms will work for my mother (60 years old and first trip to India!).

I will find accommodation either in Kalka or the aforementioned surrounding towns/cities.

Thanks again!
