Hi I travel last 2 weeks of October and my itinerary so far is.
Land Delhi and go Direct to Agra for 2 nights
Car to Jaipur
Jaipur for 2 nights
Overnight train to Udaipur
Udaipur for 2 nights

I have about a week left and would like to spend last two days in Delhi, so I was thinking of Car to Jodphur for 1 night Bus to Jaisalmer for 2 nights, but the 17 hour train journey back to Delhi puts me off, it is just too much traveling time.
So I could split journey from Jaisalmer to Delhi
Miss Jaisalmer and Jodphur and fly to Delhi from Udaipur and go up to Shimla or ????
or Miss Jaisalmer and Jodphur and go to Rathanbore then Delhi?
or
suggestions please
I am registered with irtc so booking trains should not be a problem and a 4 hour bus journey would be an "experience." I think but would not fancy anything longer.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers Beds

You could reverse your trip. Delhi - Agra - Udaipur - Jodhpur - Jaislamer - Jaipur - Delhi.

After Udaipur take a car/bus to Jodhpur, eventually with a stop in Ranakpur.

From Jodhpur you can train to Bikaner and then to Delhi or to Bharatpur for the Keoladeo bird sanctuary.

I have looked at this again, and am thinking
Travel by car Udaipur to Jodphur calling in at Ranakpur
Overnight Jodphur then 5.30 train to Jaisalmer
2 nights in Jaisalmer then overnight train to Delhi arriving 11 am Delhi
That will give us 2 and a half days in Delhi
Now here is possibly a dumb question to ask about a major capital city, but here goes, is Delhi worth 2 and a half days, sightseeing and shopping before we jump on a plane back to blighty?

Sure...

Last minute souvenir shopping is always needed.

You will definitely see much nicer forts in Jaisalmer, Jaipur and Jodhpur then you will in Delhi - so you could skip the Red Fort if you wanted (I didn't like it there).

The mosque, Humayan's tomb, Lodi gardens and Qutub Minar are all worth seeing. I never saw India Gate or the lotus temple - but would see them if I returned. Those would easily fill 2 days along with shopping.

If your still looking for a way of splitting your trip from Jaisalmer to Delhi you could visit Bikaner and see rat temple / camel farm and fort. But sounds like you don't have much time left in your itinerary.

If you have time, do not miss Jaisalmer. Jodhpur is on the way. If you have still more time in hand, you can pick a train from Jodhpur to Sawai Madhepur (Ranthambore). But do not miss Jaisalmer. Its the jewel in Rajasthan. A page straight out of the Arabian Nights.
