Hi!!

My boyfriend and I (both in our mid twenties) have found ourselves with a few spare days at the end of a trip around Vietnam and Hong Kong so we thought why not go to India! It will be our first time traveling to India so any advise would be wonderful and greatly appreciated!

We will be landing in Delhi on the 19th of January and will be staying for 3-4 days..

I would love to know what is achievable in such a tight time frame?

We both want to visit the Taj Mahal and the Ganges.. along with seeing the sights of Delhi.. Is that at all possible or am I better off leaving the Ganges to another time? (After reading a few posts I feel like the later will probably be the outcome but had to ask)

Also is there any advise on where to stay in Delhi for first timers? Our budget is $150- $200 per night.

Thanks :-)

If you want to see the Ganges you can make a day trip from Delhi to Garhmukteshwar. It shouldn't take you more thatn two hours getting there by rail or road.

Leave Ganges for another time.

Remember Taj Mahal will be closed on Friday.

I would see Ganges another time. You could do 3 days Delhi and 1 day Agra for Taj and Fort. Agra Fort is nicer then Delhi red fort (in my opinion).

The Delhi government website has some sample 1 - 3 day itineraries you can look at. I used their website for planning my stay.

Thanks for your advise.. I hadn't come across that site yet and it is really helpful!

I think we will loosely plan our stay around their itinerary..

I'm now trying to figure out which accommodation to select as I'm just not sure which district of Delhi to stay in???

We're are thinking of leaving the Ganges to next time as we are overwhelmed with choice and things to see in Delhi...

Thank you for all your help!! I really appreciate it!!

hi!

This is what i would suggest :

Day One : Delhi (Red Fort / Qutab Minar etc) Overnight Delhi

Day Two : Depart Early Morning for Agra ( 3 hrs drive). Visit Taj Mahal & Fatehpur Sikri. You can leave the Red Fort as you would have visited one in Delhi already. Spend a relaxed evening at the Hotel. Over night Agra

Day Three : Early Morning Departure to Jaipur (3 hours Drive) . The Pink City has plenty to offer and you would simply love the colour and culture. Visit the Amber Fort (evening light & sound Show), Nahargarh Fort and the City Palace. Indulge in some shopping. Overnight at Jaipur.

Day Four : Travel to Delhi (4-5 hours) You are all set to go back home

Also, does your boy friend and you like riding a bike? am thinking aloud.

Cheers!

Also, for $150 - $ 200 you can afford the best of the hotels in Delhi / Agra /Jaipur

Look for brands like Leela / Oberoi / Taj / Imperial (recommended for Delhi as its centrally located) / Trident / Fairmont (recommended for Jaipur) . These are luxury 5 star hotels within your budget.
