Hi

Planning to visit Nainital, Mukteshwar in the month of August 14.
Tentative Itinerary
Day 1 : DEL-NAINITAL (0400 HRS -1100HRS). Local Sightseeing. KMVN Snowview TRH.
Day 2 : NAINITAL - (1100 HRS check out - 1200 HRS checkin KMVN TRH sukhatal). Local Sightseeing

Day 3 : Checkout 0900 HRS. Reach mukteshwar by 1400 HRS. KMVN TRH for stay. Local Sight Seeing

Day 4 : Checkout 1200 HRS . Back to Delhi 2100 HRS.

Advice required :

Best Route after Moradabad to Nainital. Any impact of heavy rains in the above areas mentioned.

Mukteshwar visit will be fine for one day ? or additional day would be good.

Road Condition ?
Which vehicle will be good to drive : Hatchback or SUV (Nissan/XUV)

Looking forward for response from the members.
Thanks in advance.

I always thought the best route was the Delhi - Moradabad - Bazpur- Kaldungi - Haldwani - Nainital , but I do not know the current road conditions, may be someone who has travelled recently can give a better feed back. This route was always better than the Rampur route because of road conditions on the Rampur stretch.

Better go in a smaller car, from previous experience, Nainital will be teeming with people on Aug 14-17 weekend, parking will be difficult and there will be traffic jams all over. A smaller car will be easier to handle. The crowds will make you think you had gone some where else. Mukteshwar is actually a better place.

Almost similar plan here as well. I would be leaving Faridabad by 3.30 AM on August 15 and reaching Bhimtal before 11AM and roam around nearby 7-8 lakes which are walking distance from hotel. Spend an evening watching light reflections in water.

Considering first day rush in Nainital on August 16, my preference would be to visit Mukteshwar on day 2 than Nainital but against Muketshwar should be 2hrs distance from Bhimtal and should be 2-3 hrs affair there so an Evening in Nainital can be done on August 16 as well.

Sunday would be totally for Nainital, possibly reach as early as 5AM and head to china peak and rest of the day for zoo, ropeway and lake ofcourse till late evening or night depending on weather.

If weather right, Monday might be an early checkout from hotel and a trip to Ranikhet and then back via Kaladhungi route if roads are fine or via the usual route.. targetting to be back before 12AM.

All the plans would be heavily dependent over weather and Ranikhet optional here. As about roads, then as per recent updates by colleagues and friends who went there, main highway doing fine as Rampur-Rudrapur roads repaired. Recent blockage due to Kanwar was making journey a 11-12 hrs affair but should be faster in very early morning.

Bazpur route has a small patch totally washed out as of now and not expected to improve while Haldwani would pose as major unavoidable traffic hurdle apart from Rampur entry

Great !! Well I am leaving on 14th and returning back on 17th. I am planning to go through Ghaziabad-Moradabad Rampur Suar Bazpur Kaladhungi Nainital. As I heard and read the route through Kaldhungi is scenic as compared to haldwani route. Kanwar issue is no more now. I checked through the different forum and people had travelled to above mentioned road in the month of June/July and they found the road is perfect. In any case I think while reaching to Rampur need to check with locals for road conditions.

Earlier I planned for mukteshwar but now dropped due to shortage of time. To enjoy mukteshwar I think one need to stay atleast one night to enjoy the early morning views to peak.
But after reading your schedule, if nainital is going to too much crowdy and boring, I may drive to mukteshwar and come back (touch and go) just to enjoy enroute greenery and fresh air

My suggestion is you should pay a visit to Mukteshwar, even if its a day visit, the trip and the place are worth it. Nainital would probably be very crowded.

Bazpur route is sure free from traffic though narrow at place as hill drive. Also that route can be closed during heavy mansoon so keep an eye on that part.

As about Mukteshwar, yes morning is worth there but its nothing like the place is any less amazing post that. 180 degree view would remain till 11AM. You can anyway start very early morning from Nainital to reach Mukteshwar by 6.30-7AM. The view there is worth anytime.. even evenings are quite scenic

It would be crowded during those holidays but no pilgrimage places kind of rush. Rush has its own fun.

The below visit of mine was during similar period

Should depend on last day situation which can be better updated by locals. As of now, Bhimtal route is more closer and expected to do fine. Nainital route must be longer and more susceptible for blockage I guess

Hi. had a wonderful trip at the end. could not update the road condition on 14th evening, as there was no network where I was staying.

I took Delhi-Moradabad-Rampur-Suar-Bazpur-Kaladhungi -Nainital. Started at 5.30 and Reached around 12 noon. The 5km stretch just before Bazpur is very bad in condition. It took 30-40 mins to cross the 5km stretch. Rest the road condition are very good. Kaladhungi route to nainital is more scenic with less traffic.

Stayed at KMVN Snow view, KMVN sukhatal, KMVN Bhowali. All are budget hotels with quite good service.
While returning took Nainital-kathgodam-Haldwani-Rampur-Delhi route and it took more than 9 hours to reach (Started at 2pm and reached around 11.30 pm).

You should have come back through the Kaladhungi route too. You have to come down from the other side of Nainital, ie through the High Court side and you would have hit this route.
