Hi All India Mikers,

I want to visit few places of Darjeeling by the last of the May month this year.

I want to visit all the tourist places of Darjeeling (3 nights), Mirik, Kurseong, Lava (2mights), Lolegaon(1 night), Rishop(1 night) & Pedong(1 night).

I am travelling with my wife and 5 years old child.

I want to start our journey from NJP station and finish at NJP station. I have already booked the train tickets.

I want to travel all the places by non share-able car. Want to stay at standard double bed room.

Please suggest, how much cost I have to bear for cab and hotels for this whole journey.

Thanks in Advance.

Accommodation - 8Nights x Rs. 1200 (Average) = Rs. 9600
Food - 9Days x Rs. 800 (Average) = Rs. 7200
Transport
First of all, if you book a cab from NJP that will go to Darjeeling. But, it won't take you to any local sights as the local drivers won't allow your driver to do that. Plus, the NJP station is full of touts. Be aware of that. Places around Lava-Lolegaon-Rishop have same scenario. In addition to that, the roads are of such type that only 4-wheel drive is required. So, again you have to make your hired car (from NJP) seat idle. So, I'm giving you a tentative break-up. It should be maximum as per my opinion. But, during peak season they just don't care about the rates. So, think accordingly.

NJP-Darjeeling (Via Mirik)-Rs. 3000
Darjeeling Sight Seeing - Rs. 4000
Darjeeling - Kalimpong-Lava - Rs. 3500
Lava-Rishap-Lava - Rs. 1200
Lava-Lolegaon-Lava - Rs. 2000
Lava-NJP- Rs. 4000

Kurseong will be a De-Tour. So, I didn't accounted that.

Unfortunately I didn't make it due to some personal reasons. BUT, I am warning you from one company, which is a fraud travel company. If you are going to North Bengal and Darjeeling, never go for BONVOYAGE LEISURE PVT.LTD. They took advance from me and didn't refund after assuring to return. I heard many other complaints about this company. Also beware of Amitabha Deb Ray (Piku) of that company. Who is a fraudstar.

Darjeeling tour before march 15

Hi,
I am planning to visit Darjeeling and Tinchuley on a total 7 day trip (inclusive of journey days) starting from 6th March probably.
Day 1: Reach darjeeling from NJP, take rest and enjoy sunset in the mall. Overnight stay at WBTDC lodge.
Day 2: Tiger hill in the morning and Joy ride in the afternoon.
Day 3: Local sightseeing
Day 4: Move to Tinchuley and take rest
Day 5: Enjoy sunrise and do the nature walk.
Day 6: Enjoy sunrise and move to NJP for the Train to SDAH.

Can you give me an idea how much does it take for a taxi (indica or any small car) to reach Darjeeling? Any other cost estimation if you can provide, that would be helpful.

Dibyendu

Hi All India Mikers,

After 2 unsuccessful attempt to visit Darjeeling, this time on 3rd attempt we went to Darjeeling during our son's summer vacation.

20st May: I along with my family and one of my friend’s family started Journey at 6:30 AM via Kanchenjunga Express from Sealdah Station. Reached NJP at 7 PM. We Stayed at Tirupati Lodge Pvt. Ltd, near to NJP Station.

21st May: Next day we made a contract with a travel Agency Nature Discoverer Tour opposite of NJP Station with Rs. 23000 for our whole tour transportation facility. Although it extends by Rs. 3000 thousands. Sikkim Travel agency denied to give support with the said amount of Rs.6000 (1 day of South Sikkim Tour and Drop at NJP from Temi, as per the initial contract) due to peek season and asked for additional Rs. 3000. Also we have call them every day night to ensure our next days cab, which is frustrating. So beware of that type of travel agencies.
Anyways transfer to Darjeeling Hotel (Hotel Sonar Bangla, near to Mall) via Mirik Lake and Lepchajagat and in the afternoon free for leisure at Mall. Took fabulous dinner at Glenary’s @ Mall. Overnight at Hotel Sonar Bangla, Darjeeling.

22nd May: We wake up at 3:30 AM to visit Tiger Hill - Superb view of the sunrise from Tiger Hill is famous the world over. One has to avail a taxi to reach the 8000 ft. peak. An exhilarating experience not to be missed. Along with the view of sunrise one can glimpse the top of Mt. Everest and several other peaks of the Himalayan range. But beware that during peak season, don’t opt for that. The narrow roads of Darjeeling create huge jam and you will not able to reach Tiger hill before sunrise.
We reach there at around 6:00 AM by walking from the half way, leaving our cab. Also the mist and fog hinder our view to Mt. Kanchenjunga.
Ghoom Monastery - On the way back from the Tiger hill we visited the Ghoom Monastery on the Ghoom spur. One of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in India, It houses 12 ft high statue of the Mayetria Budha.
Batasia Loop & War Memorial - The Batasia Loop, an engineering marvel and feat constructed in 1879 where we saw the Toy Train go round a loop. And the War Memorial honors those Gorkhas who laid their lives in the service of the Nation. Also our wife and childrens wore the traditional dresses there with rent.

Thereafter, we reached at hotel at about 8-45 AM and after breakfast we started for Toy Train Joyride at 12-10 hrs. It was also a marvelous journey. We visited Ghoom Rly. Museum. At about about 2-30 PM we again reached at Darjeeling Rly. Station. Toy train joy rides operate from Darjeeling Railway Station. It's a 2-hour round trip from Darjeeling up to Ghum and back covering a total distance of 14kms. The train stops for 10 minutes at the Batasia Loop. At Batasia the train makes a loop around a wonderful manicured garden. Ghum is the highest altitude station on the Darjeeling Himalayan Rail track. Altitude of Ghum is 2225.7 meters (7407 ft). Here the toy train stops for 30 minutes for a visit to Darjeeling Himalayan Railway museum. The DHR Museum is located at the station premises. The highlight here is the oldest toy train engine - The Baby Sivok. You will pass by villages and local shops on the way with children on the street waving at you as you take this relaxed and charming journey through the hills.
Then we took splendid lunch with Sausages, cutlets, sandwiches, etc with reasonable cost at Keventer’s@Mall. In the evening we again roam around Mall area. Overnight at Hotel Sonar Bangla, Darjeeling.

23rd May: After breakfast visited below few points of Darjeeling.
Padma Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park - The zoo exhibits some rare Himalayan Fauna including the snow leopard, Red Panda, Pheasants. A real treat for wild life enthusiasts.
H.M.I. - Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. Adjoining the Zoo is the world famous institute of which the Everest hero Tenzing Norgay was one of the founding members and field director. The HMI museum houses a rare collection of mementoes from various Expeditions.
Darjeeling Ropeway - One can avail of a fantastic joy ride over lush green tea gardens and have a panoramic view of the Kanchendzonga range. We didn’t avail it.
Tenzing & Gombu Rock - Rock climbing training of the HMI is conducted here and often demonstrations are held.
Tea Garden - Approximately 40 minutes walking tour distance from Darjeeling, one can see and feel the real tea plantations of famous Darjeeling tea.
Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre - This Centre Established For The Rehabilitation Of Tibetan Refugees Offers One A View And Sale Of A Wide Range Of Tibetan Handicrafts.
We took a view of St.Joseph’s school from outside.
Later after having lunch in the hotel, transferred to Kalimpong. Stayed in Morgan House for a night on my halt in Kalimpong. Located next to Army Golf course, this place is beautiful & highly recommended for all visiting Kalimpong. All rooms have heating machines, with wooden floor. Children can enjoy in park.

24th May : After breakfast we visited Durpin Monastry, which is located at Durpin Dara Hill at Kalimpong town. Durpin Monastery is impressive religious point and the view from it is magnificent.
Then we moved to Pine View Nursery with splendid collections of Cactus, orchids, flowers and ferns.
Then we visited Delo park. This beautiful nature park offers one of the best views of Mt. Kanchenjungha and River Teesta. Delo has been converted into a nature park by the Government and there are Government accommodation options within the park as well as luxurious private accommodation options outside the park.
Then we visited Mangal Dham Temple. This is a beautiful temple complex dedicated to Lord Krishna. The complex is very well maintained - clean with beautiful flowers and fountains leading to the temple. Inside the main temple, there are wall sculptures depicting various important events in the life of Lord Krishna. Ambience is very peaceful - worth a visit when you are in Kalimpong.
Then we transferred to the beautiful Cherry Resort at Temi tea garden. The view from the resort was very nice. You actually get to see Kanchenjunga on one side and tea plantations on the other. The scenic beauty of this place is fantastic. One will enjoy the most, if the Resort service & food quality is ignored. Overnight at Cherry resort.

25th May: Early morning @5AM we watched majestic view of Kanchenjunga mountain from our resort and it was available till 8 AM as the sky was clear.
Then after breakfast, visited the Buddha Park of Ravangla, also known as Tathagata Tsal, is situated near Rabong in South Sikkim district, Sikkim, India. It was constructed between 2006 and 2013 and features a 130-foot high statue of the Buddha as its centerpiece.
Then moved forward to Namchi (1 hour from Ravangla). We visited a large statue of Padmasambhava or Guru Rimpoche. This is place where tourist can admire the tallest statue of Guru Padmasambhava. This wide gigantic statue of Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rimpoche, is known to have blessed Sikkim more than 1,200 years ago, and is considered as a tribute to the saint.
Then we visited Char Dham (near to Namchi). The main Shiva temple is 108-ft in height and atop that sits the gigantic statue of Lord Shiva which is another 87-ft tall. It sits at the highest and most commanding position in Solophok hill while facing east. In order to give all that a Shiva devotee may need, there are replicas of twelve Jyotirlangas constructed around the Shiva temple. Replicas of Char dhams have also been created, and they are Badrinath Dham, Jagannath Dham, Dwarka Dham that are dedicated to lord Vishnu and Rameshwar Dham which is dedicated to lord Shiva.
Overnight at Temi, cherry resort.

26th May: Nothing special on this date. Morning due to heavy cloud we couldn’t see Mt. Kanchenjunga. So roam around the tea gardens and the local village. After breakfast transfer to NJP (5 hours of journey) and took Uttar Banga Express @6PM.

27th May: Reached Sealdah around 7 PM.

We enjoyed a lot and mesmerized with the wonder places of hilly regions we covered.
