I heard the office at the railway station had burned down!

Is it not possible/easier to just book your train journeys via the website www.cleartrip.com?

Has anyone booked on cleartrip before? If so, where did you get the train tickets delivered to?

I have been using it to view train journeys as I can't book anything for December till October.

booking trains

I have not booked yet but had a look at cleartrip website which is much better site and easier to navigate around and one doe not have to go round checking train numbers, station indexes etc etc. IRTC website is a nightmare.

You can't book for December yet because they only allow bookings 3 mths before your travel. Not any earlier.

I assume you get etickets and print it off yourself. I might be wrong. I am sure others on this site will correct me. I am learning myself.

Mari-I don't know about that actually. I booked tickets 90 days in advance for my travel. I am going in November and I booked my train tickets in August. I don't know if it makes a difference or not that I did it through IRCTC. Maybe booking through them allows you to do it earlier (90 days)?

The Advance Reservation Period for most of the trains is 90 days.

When you book a ticket using Cleartrip you can take the print of the E-ticket. When the ticket examiner comes, show him the printout of the E-ticket. Also when travelling keep a photo-id proof with you.

Hello Bigjed . I had got that information from Indian railway website under tourist information.
I checked with jeet travel of Amritsar(you had given me their contact details) I found it quite amazing that they take the ticket price and slap on 50%+premium on each ticket.Like price for train from Agra to Amritsar is 742 Rs they charge 1150Rs and I think you can hire taxis for abou 1200 Rs. for a day but they charge 2200 Rs /day. I don't mind paying 10-20% premium for their work which probably entails only sending few emails or phone calls and as they do it all the time it won't be such nightmare as for people like us who will only do it once in a while.I thought I will give them a miss and book through cleartrip.

My problem is I am travelling in a party of 8. I assume that the only way to work with the Indian Railway booking systems is to do 2 bookings for 4 persons.

We are looking to use the Golden Temple mail to travel overnight up to Amritsar from Delhi and back again. As my mother is 87 we would prefer to go AC 1st class but from what I can see there are at most 6 seats available on any day and less on other.

My question is what do I do when I am told there are 3 seats availble but the system still offers to sell me 4 seats? I assume the 4 seat will be RAC, but what happens on the day if there are no cancellations. Does one of our party get transferred to AC 2 or is there a risk that they will not have a berth?

Do you recommend that I just book the available seats in AC1 and book the others in AC2?

Alternatively do I just get a travel agent to do the work?

train to goa (is it running or not???)

TRAIN RUNNING TO GOA ON TUESDAY?
hi guys all booked up and ready to go , but here is the weak link,
can anyone with a bit more knowledge help me out here (many thanks in advance)

in search engine mustseeindia this option comes up , great this means i don't have to go back up to jaipur and fly to goa.

Sawai Madhopur (SWM) Goa - All stations | Tuesday January 25, 2011

Intercity Exp (2466)
Sawai Madhopur Kota Jn ..... 1hr no problem here

Trivndrm Rjdhni (2432)
Kota Jn Madgaon ................. 23hr ( class options)

2 questions if i may.

1st question , apparently i cannot book this more than 91 days in advance , which hinders the rest of my itinerary , and on other websites it says it only runs on a friday (this putting out my route plan)

second question ...
If i do manage to book the 23hour train my class options are ( yes i did read the excellent train write up , but idiot question here we come ) booking AC,1st class means its compairable with flying prices , good. but AC1 mean my wife and i get to book the cabin to ourselves? i once travelled on tran siberian railway which looks the same ( but diffrent rules for different countries) 1 cabin = 2 people ( NOT 1 cabin = 4 people sleeping 2 on seats and 2 on overhead beds?

sorry for being an idiot , i should know better , but i would be gutted if i got on the train and then had to explain to my wife , opps i have got it wrong , still only 23 hours!

many thanks

clemo

HI, I am from New Zealand and trying to registrar with India Rails, finding that it seems to not like my NZ cell phone number. I have also tried to registrar using my email
but when it sends me a OTP and I put it in, it doesn't recognize it!! I have emailed the help line but get no answer, just a generic email back acknowleging I have emailed
them. I have tried Clear trip, which is good but you have to belong to India Rail as well. I am finding it very frustrating! Thanks Sarah-Jane

Hi,

Sadly, lots of folk have trouble registering with Indian Railways.

Best advice is to read up the info on seat 61. Scroll down to the section on how to register...

https://www.seat61.com/India.htm#Buy-tickets-online

There are one or two "agents" who seem to get good revues if you don't manage to register yourself:
Raj from Train Ticket Please. Just search under that name and his website comes up.

You may find more advice on the dedicated India Mike train forum:

http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...ad-t165379/24/ Best to go to the last page of long threads for the most up to date info!

Ed.
