Chiplun, Ratnagiri and Vengurla are places on the coast between Mumbai and Goa where you can relax. Chiplun is not exactly on the coast, but near it is a place called Guhagar which has a beach.

There are quite a few coastal places between Mumbai and Goa which would fit your requirements
Shrivardhan / Harihareshwar

Shrivardhan / Harihareshwar
Route Mumbai - Sion - Vashi - Panvel - Vadkhal Naka - Left NH-17 - Mangaon - Shrivardhan
Take a right from Mangaon to Shrivardhan which is around 15 kms.
It has a good beach and a few hotels to stay. Around 20 kms from Shrivardhan is Harihareshwar. It is famous for its Shiv Temple and the beach. It has got a rocky beach and the sandy beach. Just a little ahead of the temple there is a way to go down towards the rocky strecth of the beach. During low tide you can walk around the mountain and go the sandy part of the beach. MTDC has got a resort in Harihareshwar.

Route Mumbai - Sion - Vashi - Panvel - Vadkhal Naka - Left NH-17 - Mangaon - Mahad - Poladpur - Chiplun - Guhagar
From Chiplun take a right to Guhagar which is around 42 kms.
You can stay at Manas hotel. There is only lodging available here. There is also Hotel Prestige which has lodging as well as boarding. Both are opposite the ST Bus Stand. If you go straight from ST Bus Stand you would see a temple, after crossing the temple take a left and after a couple of minutes walk you see Hotel Annapoorna where lodging and boarding is available. Places to see are Hedvi Ganesh Temple around 20 kms from Guhagar, Velneshwar Temple and Beach around 15 kms from Guhagar, Veldoor around 14 kms from Guhagar. You can take a boat from Veldoor to go to Dapoli. On the way to Veldoor you will see the Enron Project. Buses are available to go to these places but they are not frequent. You can avail of share rickshaws or share jeeps which charge you on a per seat basis. Velneshwar has got a MTDC resort.

Route Mumbai - Sion - Vashi - Panvel - Vadkhal Naka - Left NH-17 - Mangaon - Mahad - Poladpur - Chiplun - Sangameshwar Nivali Phata Ganpatipule
From Nivali Phata take a right to Ganpatipule which is around 31 kms.
There are many options to stay in Ganpatipule. The best one is the MTDC resort, the only one facing the beach. Check-in is at 10:00 and check-out is at 9:00. You can extend the check-out by maximum half hour. Credit Cards are accepted here for lodging. The lodging options available are Deluxe Non AC room, Deluxe AC room, Sea View Cottage, Konkani Non AC room, and Konkani AC room. The tariff is the lowest during monsoon. The booking of rooms can be done online using the MTDC website. Take a printout of the receipt and show it at the reception. You would have to pay Rs 250/- per guest + plus 10% tax and Rs 100/- as deposit which is refundable before you check-in. You will have to pay the deposit in cash; the balance can be paid by credit card. The standard occupancy is for 2 people. We had to pay Rs 790/- extra as we had 2 guests. The tariff for the Deluxe Non AC room was Rs 1250/- and we had booked 2 rooms. Almost all the rooms are sea-facing. Open the balcony and you can see the beach and hear the waves. Hot water is available 24 hrs. There is no room service available. The Konkani huts are around a kilometer from the reception, so once you check-in you can take your vehicle there. Beer is available in the restaurant. Food is not that great. On the way towards Prachin Konkan there is a place which is available for boarding owned by one of the temple priest. If you want to have a proper darshan you can stay there and the priest will take care of the darshan. On that same road you can stay at the Durvankar hotel. Credit cards are accepted here. Only vegetarian food is available here.

The famed Ganapati Temple is just a minute from the MTDC restaurant. The temple is located on the base of a hill and there is a pradakshina which is around a kilometer long and takes around 15 minutes to complete (preferred by most pilgrims). You can also take a pradakshina around the temple. The regular Prasad that pilgrims take, home is the Boondi Laddoo, which is available in packets of 2 and 4. The cost is Rs 5 per laddoo. There is a very good museum Prachin Konkan which is around a kilometer from the MTDC resort. Take a left from outside the MTDC resort. Most of the crowd on the beach is in front of the temple. If you want some solitude go towards the right or the left from the temple. If you go towards the right of the temple you can see the Konkani huts of MTDC.

Route Mumbai - Sion - Vashi - Panvel - Vadkhal Naka - Left NH-17 - Mangaon - Mahad - Poladpur - Chiplun - Sangameshwar Nivali Phata Rajapur - Lanja - Nandgaon via Tarele - Jamsande via Koloshi - Kunkeshwar
It is famous for it Shiv temple and attracts many devotees towards Mahashivratri. There is a place to stay just near the temple which is looked after by the Kunkeshwar Devasthan. Around 6 kms from Kunkeshwar is Gajbadevi beach. From Kunkeshwar you need to take a bus which goes towards Tambaldeg and ask the conductor that you need to get down at Gajbadevi. Frequency of the buses would be a problem. Another option would be taking a rickshaw from Kunkeshwar if you plan to stay there. You could also visit these places and take a bus to Malvan from here.

In Malvan you can stay at Hotel Sagar Kinara which is bang opposite the beach. In Malvan you can see the Sindhudurg fort, Chivla Beach, Tarkarli Beach and Devbag Beach. There is a MTDC resort in Tarkarli. To reach Tarkarli you can take a rickshaw from Malvan. From Tarkarli beach you can see the Sindudurg fort.
