Hi All,

I am looking to escort a girlfriend from Bangalore (where we end a 3 week escorted journey with our yoga teachers)back to New Delhi. We aim to travel over Christmas; from the 23 Dec to catch her flight home on 28th. We would like to make the trip by 2nd Class train, hoping for some daytime train sights travel.
Do the trains fill up over xmas? Any suggested stopovers or is it madness to even consider due to holidays? Do we need to make reservations now? Have we left it too long already?

I then want to travel to Bihar, Satyananda Munger Ashram by 2 of January on my own, by train again.

My fist time travelling in India, cept for a 10 day visit to Kerala; will have just had 3 weeks travel with Indian teachers to hopefully learn navigation tips.

Have traveled all over South America, spontaneously, ie taking it day by day for several years and trip around the pacific regularly by boat also flew round the world on a shoestring. So experienced traveler, but not in Asia really.

Any insights appreciated.
Cheers

They already have filled up except a few trains if you don't hurry. End Dec is peak period and even if it isn't, such long distance trains fill up very quickly. FWIW bookings open for most trains 90 days in advance.

The available option that you do have is to find the Tourist booking office at Bangalore city station and use your passports to get tickets in the foreign tourist quota.

Best wishes.

hehe trains usually run late due to fog.so no tight schedules and long waits at some signals and stations.you will hate 2 nd class if you dont have patience.better take a ac class. For instance TN which runs between Delhi and chennai reached chennai 10 hours late around dec 26.Yes of course it depends on fog which is rather unpredictable.

Thanks so much for your reply. I will get on booking now. I see the 23rd has a WL7/WL6, if I book what are the chances I/we could get on?
I also think 2A or 3A would be our preferred mode of travel.
Looks like if we take this trip we should plan on just getting to ND w/o any stops along the way to make sure she can make her flight.
Thanks for all your advice.
Namaste
