I'm approaching crunch time for our India Itinerary and could really do with a sanity check if what I'm considering is sensible:

Day 1:

Arrive BLR Airport - 8pm
Depart straight to Coorg (Toyota Innova)

Day 2:
Stay in Hotel near Dubare Elephant Camp

Day 3:
Spend morning at Dubare Elephant Camp

Day 4:
Sight seeing around Coorg.

Day 5:
Return to Taj at BLR Airport

Day 6:
7am flight back home

2 Adults
1 Child (4 y/o)
1 Baby (8 m/o)

Some concerns/questions I have:
1) Is transferring to Coorg at 8pm sensible/safe? Online searches suggest 5 to 6 hours.

Originally we planned to stay in Bangalore, but were advised in a previous thread the closest place worth staying would be Mysore. I had ruled out Coorg due to the distance, despite it being our ideal setting. But my daughter really wants to go to Dubare and participate in the Elephant washing. So since we'd be covering the distance anyway, we are now thinking perhaps its better to tough it out and head straight to Coorg. Rather then make Mysore our base and spend Day 3 travelling to Dubare and back.
2) I've had a quote of 240 for 5 day car with driver. Is this within ballpark of reasonable? We would only use the car the first and last days for the transfers between BLR and Coorg. Plus the short trip to Dubare from the Hotel. But I've been advised it would work out the same cost as just taking the car for the full 5 days (which seems to make sense as unless the driver has a return fare, we'd be picking up those costs anyway).
3) I'm considering the following hotels in Coorg (in order of preference)

Evolve Back - 840 AI
Amanvana - 640 FB
The Ibnii resort - 900 FB

Are these good choices? Any others I should consider of similar standard? I'm trying to stick reasonably close to Dubare, as we want to visit 9am for the elephant washing. Also I dont want to make the trip from Bangalore any longer.
We liked the Tamara, but they dont take children under 12.
4) For Day 5 any recommendations for a sight to stop at on the way? We'll try to only make one stop, as we don't want to arrive at the Taj too late due to the early flight home. Also if we stop several times there's no chance the kids will sleep part of the way.
Really appreciate any help/pointers people can provide. I've left it late as I dithered for a long while over staying in Mysore due to Coorg playing on my mind I wish i'd booked a few more days in India now.

Any responses would be greatly appreciated

In particular about the advisability of doing BLR -> Coorg at 8pm. A couple of agents have replied. And some have said they dont advise doing the transfer over night. Whilst one has been ok with it. So i'm unsure if I'm being silly doing that transfer and would be better off staying in Mysore and foregoing Coorg this time.

If you go to Mysore after arrival, you could stay there for the night. Some sightseeing around mysore next morning and leave by lunch so as to be in dubare by sunset. Stay for two days and two nights.

On day 4, after some sightseeing leave for Mysore and stay there for the night. Day 5 after Mysore sightseeing go to Taj blr for the night.

You won't be able to see much of coorg but you still get the elephant camp and don't have to drive at night in coorg area.

Thanks for the response and alternative suggestions.

If we didn't have the kids with us, I'd be happier to pickup and move between hotels multiple times. But since we've had the kids my wife likes to throw everything out of the suitcase at every opportunity And then panic after we've left if she's forgotten something

We are already spending the 11th at the Taj near BLR. So I want to stick to one hotel for the rest of the stay. If Coorg overnight isnt sensible, I'd probably stick to our original itinerary and leave it for another trip:

Arrive BLR Airport - 8pm
Depart straight to Mysore (Toyota Innova), Grand Mercure Mysore

Day 2:
Mysore sight seeing

Day 3:
Leave ~07:00 to Dubare and spend morning there for the Elephant Washing, then return to Mysore

Day 4:
Mysore sight seeing

Day 5:
Return to Taj at BLR Airport, perhaps stopping somewhere en route

Day 6:
7am flight back home

No right way of dealing with this. But I think what VA suggests is the best option I can think of.
You will enjoy 2 days in Coorg, the third will be a stretch. Kids would love to spend time with the elephant more than once.
Try convincing your wife that you will take care of her and the kids on day 1 or maybe on day 4 - as she would be very tired after the journey and open the bags selectively.
Try spending 3 nights in Mysore initially.
Then shift to Dubare for 1 night, leave early on day 4 as planned for day 3 and stay the night there.
Day 5 leave for BLR directly late in the afternoon or early evening. Stay at BLR and flight next day.

An alternative opinion..
Sar Pass Trek , Rohtang, Munnar, Badrinath Kedarnath, Vaishnodevi, Goa, VOF, Kedarkantha, Kuari Pass, Brahmatal Trek

However if you do plan to go to Coorg directly, note that it is not an insane idea as such. Just that the travel would be pretty tiring till you reach BLR, so you may want to crash in the bed as soon as you can.
But we are talking of a difference of only 1.5 - 2 hours of transit time (mysore vs coorg). (can be considered less or a lot depending on physical and mental state.)

Thanks for taking the time to respond. My biggest concern was the day 1 overnight to Coorg was insane idea

Ideally I would have made India a longer trip. But given the days we have and Dubare being non negotiable with my daugher/wife there's no escaping doing the difficult miles. So my rational with the two itinerary's is to try to cover the miles as painlessly as possible.

The question is do I break the travel up by making Mysore the base, and adding some travel on Day 3 (early morning to Dubare and back in the afternoon). Or tough it out and go straight to Coorg.

The advantage of going straight to Coorg on Day 1 is the kids will sleep (i'd book an Innova to make it as comfortable as possible). However, the Day 5 return trip from Coorg at best they will sleep for an hour or two. So the 5 hours back will definitely be more painful.

On the flip side, if we make Mysore the base, the return on Day 5 will be shorter. But I compromise Day 3 instead, by adding about 4 hours (Dubare and back) in the car. I'm sure the early morning drive to Dubare will be difficult, because they will be fresh from a nights sleep and be desperate to get out of the car :/

Currently I'm leaning towards the Coorg itinerary now i've got feedback Day 1 is not a crazy idea When we first started searching it was instantly the place we wanted to go until we realised the time required to get there from BLR.

In terms of hotels/transfers I've got some firm quotes back now. Looks like its between the Ibnii or the Amanvana. Just trying to decide if I want to pay a lot more for the Ibnii.

What would you pick based on these prices:
1) Amanvana Full Board incl Transfers = 61,500 RS

45,000 RS for Bungalow

14,000 RS for transfers in Innova

2,500 RS for Day 3 Innova to Dubare and sight seeing after
2) Ibnii Full board with 3rd party transfers = 110,600 RS

90,100 RS for Kpiluwak pool villa

21,500 RS for transfers via private agent (240), with car for full 5 days but we will only use it for the 3 days. They've given my the contact details for their partner, so perhaps they will bring the transfer cost down a little.
3) Evolve Back Full Board incl Transfers = 116,360 RS

93,860 RS for Lily Pool Cottage

22,500 for Innova for 5 days

Just thought I'd come back and update for the benefit of future readers.

We did the overnight to Coorg after landing. Took ~4.5 hours (Toyota Innova). Mostly good roads until the last hour or so. Traffic out of Bangalore was terrible, but after that apart from a few queues at the tolls it was clear running. As expected the kids slept, was a bit rougher journey for my wife and I but was wonderful to wake up at the Evolve Back rather then in BLR with the journey awaiting us.

Return trip we set off 10:30 am. With a stop in the middle for lunch it took 6 hours. There was traffic passing through some of the bigger towns, but otherwise not bad until we hit Bangalore again.

Would do the same itinerary again if the flight times were similar. Also would recommend Taj BLR if you have an early departure. Very nice hotel with pleasant staff and certainly beats ending your trip sitting in Bangalore traffic worried you may not make your flight

Now we need details of the fun you had, with atleast some snaps!

And when you had to choose between two, you made the right choice of selecting the third option.. (ref, your previous post!!)

Dithered on the hotel for ages

Then Expedia popped up with an offer for a Villa at Evolve for 800 (Evolve still did the transfers for 22,500 RS) and it tipped me towards paying the extra

So glad I did now. Absolutely wonderful place and staff. We spent most of our time wondering the grounds/plantation. Doing a few of the activities. Apart from the second day when we went to Dubare (having to cross the river on foot :O) and the Bhudist Temple.

I'll pop some photo's on once I've pulled them of the Camera.

But highly recommend the Evolve Back for anyone trying to decide on accommodation in Coorg. Was the perfect place to follow a few weeks in the Maldives.
