Hi,

Well after many hours of research, and some help from other indiamiker's, I'm down to my final itinerary, yay! 24 days in North India, Rajasthan, and Darjeeling in November. But lately I've been reading interesting things about Jodhpur, which is only on the itinerary as: get off the train in Jod, meet the camel safari people, and leave on 2 day safari, finishing elsewhere. I'm starting to wonder whether I should be spending some time in Jodhpur? Other Rajasthani destinations include Jaisalmer, Udaipur via Ranakpur. So my question is: Should I be thinking about tweaking the itinerary to include Jodhpur? The only way to do this is to skip Amritsar. (Going from Delhi; only for golden temple). So....Amritsar or Jodhpur? Any suggestions/opinions welcome!

hi beckfish,
I guess Amritsar would be a better option.. 2 days in Jodhpur should be enough considering you have already planned Jaisalmer separately...
Keep Exploring!!!

Thanks for your reply prince_ell. I may not have been clear enough - the 2 day safari leaves from Jodhpur but ends Jaisalmer, so I would only see Jodhpur as I am leaving it. Do you think that is enough? I am torn between spending more time there, or seeing the golden temple at Amritsar. I met a lovely man from India here, and he told me about the golden temple so fondly - and I promised him I would visit it when I go to India! It does sound quite magical....

Makhu is 60(ish) km from Amritsar.

Jodhpur-Makhu train.

or

Makhu-Jodhpur train

Do both, but it depends how you planned to get to Darjeeling from Delhi/Amritsar.

Over 250 km in two days on a camel, I don't think that is possible.

If it is, a nice soft seat would be needed for another 2 days.

Again, I'm not being clear enough! Jodhpur to Jaisalmer is first by camel safari, then transfer by jeep. Might still need a soft cushion though! Thanks for the replies. I have decided to stick with plan A, and see the golden temple. Such a shame that its impossible to go everywhere!

My personal vote would be for Jodhpur over Amritsar. Just so many nice palaces and forts to visit and a nicer city than Amritsar.
