Hi!

I will be traveling to Agra from Jaipur. I believe I land at 6:35 AM. I will spend about a day and a half w/Taj, then need to get to Rishikesh by 27 or 28th for an International Yoga Festival.

I'd like to do overnight travel to save on lodging, but I'd also like to be efficient in traveling.

What is the best way to get to Rishikesh from Agra? Air/train/bus?
Is there anything that would land me in Rishikesh on the morning of the 28th?

Thanks so much,
Jordi

Hi Vikramyy,

Thanks so much! I will be able to play this by ear, vs. pre-book, right?

I did not fully understand the dread term "Terminal Illness" until I saw Terminal 1 D of Delhi Airport.

I guess the most economical, comfortable and fastest way is to travel from Agra to Rishikesh is to take a train from Agra to Delhi (there are many to choose from depending upon the time of travel) and then take the Janshatabdi from New Delhi to Haridwar (departs at 15:30 hrs and reaches Haridwar around 19:30 hrs.) and onwards to Rishikesh by bus (the bus station is just opposite the railway station at Haridwar).
Yes, do keep the upcoming Kummbh Mela in mind as it is going to be very difficult to move around the sector during this period.

Regards

If anybody wants to go Delhi - Rishikesh during Kumbha, it's better to take Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express or Nizamuddin-Dehradun AC special Express to Dehradun and then take a bus to Rishikesh. This will addup up to travel time, but will be more comfortable.

Hi There,

What if I took a flight from Delhi to Dehradun? Then a bus to Rishi?

Is that even possible? If so, will this be crazy croweded too b/c Kumbha? Is it economically wasteful?

Thanks so much,
Jordi

The flight goes from Delhi to a location called Jolly Grant which is almost mid-way to Dehradum and Rishikesh. The most economical and convenient option is, as suggested by delhiwala, Shatabdi, Janshatabdi or the AC Express from Delhi to Dehradun. If looking for an overnight journey, you may also have a look at Mussourie Express.

JCSunshine,

I don't think flight will be crowded with Kumbha participants....

It's not economically wasteful, as you do get there early. Buses to Rishikesh pass from Jollygrant, where the airport is located. Rishikesh is quite close from there......

If you have time on your hands, Shatabdi to Dehradun and then a bus is best combination....

Delhiwala,

Thank you so much! It is decidedly so - Shatabdi to Dehradun (now I get to see this spot too!), then bus to Rishi,

I really appreciate your guidance,

railway schedule website that helped me alot

http://indiarailinfo.com/

I use this website to find best possible way to destinations.. it also gives average delay time.. so u can pick the train that is on time average.. not guaranteed but better then average delay...

I was going to take agra to delhi and delhi to Haridwar train.. which would have taken me the most efficiently..

thank you..

Utkal express is OK, but not most efficient as it wastes your full day. Taj Express from Agra to Delhi and then Nizamuddin-Dehradun AC Special is a good combination.

The option suggested by delhiwala is by far the best choice possible in case you're not keen at spending any time in Delhi. Taj Express will drop you at Nizamuddin Railway Station around 22:00 hrs and you'll get the AC Express from the same station for Haridwar at 23:55 hrs. (also covers for any unforeseen delays in reaching Delhi by Taj Express). Just remember that the the AC Express does not run on Saturdays and is scheduled to arrive at Haridwar at 03:55 hrs which might be a bit too early, especially during winters.
Another good option, if you can stay back in Delhi for the night, would be to catch the Delhi Dehradun Shatabdi Express the next morning at 06:50 hrs so as to reach Haridwar at 11:25 hrs.
