Advice on Chandigarh, Punjab, HP for 7 days early Oct. No clue what to see!

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I are traveling to Punjab/Chandigarh area for 7 days in early October and we are completely stumped on how to plan our itinerary!

Right now we're thinking of spending 1.5 days in Amritsar, 1 day in Chandigarh, 1 day visiting Anandpur Sahib. Then we are trying to decide whether to venture into Himachal Pradesh or see more of Punjab?

We don't want to see Shimla because it is too touristy for our tastes, but some of the other mountain towns interest me, such as Naggar, Manikaran, or Kullu. But, I am a little wary of going on a scary windy mountain roads nor do we want to spend our limited days traveling on the roads for 8-10 hours in a day.

Our itinerary is verly flexible and ideally we'd like to see more important Sikh sites, so any advice is appreciated! We'd likely be hiring a car and driver as well if that makes a difference.

Thanks! :)

PS - Also, we're healthy and active so up for hiking, but not interested in going on multi-day treks.

Manali and Naggar, take a Bus from Chandigarh Bus stand its very Cost effective and saves time.

Amritsar is certainly worth a couple of days and we really enjoyed Shimla. No traffic, no litter it's a real treat. The "Toy train" might appeal. Not the fastest way up the hill but a great trip.

Thanks harish2012! How long does it take to get Manali & Naggar from Chandigarh by car or bus?

Dharamshala / Mcleodganj is closer from Amritsar. There is a direct connection from Amritsar or you can take a train from Amritsar to Pathankot and then bus or car to Dharmashala / Mcleodganj. Alternatively you can also go towards Dalhousie / Khajjiar by bus or car from Pathankot.
