Hello all.

I need your help on a matter. We will have to be in Hyderabad for some work in December this year and have 5-6 days spare time.WE have our return tickets from Hyderabad for Kolkata.

Can you suggest some places which can be visited within this time frame. We have visited Hyderabad several times,so local sightseeing may be skipped. Also we have done the coastal areas of Andhra, like vizag and suryalanka and also araku valley.Same for Tirupati.

We were considering if we could visit Hampi and the adjoining areas in the time frame. Can you suggest an itirerary?

We can reach Hospet by overnight train, do hampi (2 nights?) and while returning can we consider returning via Gulbarga/Bijapur?Possible in the given time frame?

Any route suggestion/alternate spot suggestion is most welcome. We enjoy scenic beauty as well as old ruins,,forts as well as river, and pretty much everything in between. We are not looking for much treks or adventure this time, though.

We are open to travelling by bus/train/private-taxi, whichever is most convenient and suitable. We are 3 adults.

Thanks in advance.

It is possible, yes, but I would keep the maximum time available for Hampi. A few hours in Bijapur on the way back (via Bijapur and Solapur) since the time is better spent at Hampi than anywhere else, given what the OP has said.

If budget permitted, I would hire a car for the trip, but that is also because I do not know alternate ways of easy travel to Gulbarga and Bijapur from Hampi. I have done the road trip many times with many combinations, though.

I would suggest being closer to Hyderabad. Yaganti, Belum Caves, Warangal could be a few options.

Thanks for all your suggestions.we have been to belum caves earlier aarosh,so don't want to repeat it.

What i can't work out is the logistics.suppose I take the overnight train to hospet from hyderabad, and then take a car for bijapur and gulbarga and another car back to hyderabad?or you suggest we keep the car with us till hyderabad.any idea about the rates in such a case?
also, how can we (if at all) fit warangal into this?
Can you suggest the loop?

In 5 days, do this -

Take a train from Hyderabad to Hospet (hosapete now). Spend the next 3 days in Hampi. No need to hire a car, use local autos and bargain hard. Stay at a guesthouse in new janatha plot or Padma guest house near Virupaksha temple. Do not stay across the river unless you fancy crossing over by boat and not visiting the Virupaksha temple after sunset. Check Ashwinnagar's trip report and Naveenamohanrao's. Also check Biman's old report and ask him for advice, he did this bit by public transport. I had a hired car and driver throughout (I had money in those days, I've blown it all now).

Take a bus from Hospet to Badami. Stay over and visit the caves next day. You may hire an auto for nearby areas. Stay overnight again. Last day, using a hired car for the entire day visit Pattadakal and Mahakoota and the main complex (durga temple / lad khan) of Aihole. From Badami, there's a direct train to Hyderabad.

If you have a dedicated car, you can include Bijapur, Almatti dam, many small temples such as Annigeri, Lakkundi, etc but without a car, stick to the above. I wouldn't bother with Gulbarga in any case.

Hope this helps

Given the road conditions, Yaganti and Belum would take only a little lesser amount of time as Hampi would (by road).

@ abhinanda -

Warangal is definitely closer but nothing compares to Hampi - absolutely nothing - not Fatehpur Sikri, not Mandu, can't say about Macchu Picchu or Pompeii. So I second captain's opinion, spend the maximum time in Hampi. And be happy.
