First off I have to say i'm officially addicted to indiamike.com, i realised this after spending 4 hours on here today attemting to plan my trip and am more than grateful to all those who have responded to my previous posts and queries.

So to start i'll provided everyone with the basic details...I'm gonna be arriving in Delhi on the 2nd of Feb and again, flying out of delhi on Feb the 24th, so 22 days in total. It looks like i'll be on my own, but i'm a 24 year old guy with a fairly good knowledge of backpacking having travelled Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore-Australia and New Zealand before...Although this is my first trip alone.

I'm gonna be on a budget of around Rs2000 per day, but am totally fine with budget accommodation, food from street vendors and AC-3 train class.

I've been looking around on here for lots of itinerary ideas, and one that has caught my attention is that of:
Delhi-Varanasi-Agra-Jaipur-Ahmedabad-Goa-Delhi.
This would involve leaving Goa by train on the 21st to get back in time for my flight on the 24th. I've looked at the availability for this journey and there are 3 leavin that day, all with good availabilty, taking round 29-33 hours and all around Rs1500.

As this is just an idea of an itinerary i'm more than open to any suggestions of routes, and as this is my first time to india i have to ask for opinions of whether to go for this 'aiming south' route, or to maybe spend a week visitng the golden triangle and then head north and visit some hill stations, thus not visiting the south on this trip?

As you can all probably tell, i'm a little bit overwhelmed with the staggering amount of places to visit, especially with the short space of time i have available.

I'd be extremelly grateful for any help, ideas, information or suggestions!

A couple of possibilities if you are looking to make the most of your time and rupees.
Agra - The state tourism office run a daily tour starting at Agra Cant station and finishing back there, This covers the Taj Mahal, Red Fort and Fatephur Sikri, an amazing place about 40 km outside Agra. I had a look for details on line but I think you have to phone them to book. We found the details in Lonely Planet. Don't plan Agra for Friday. The Taj Mahal is shut.

Jaipur - Again a State Tourist authority run bus tour called "Pink City by Night" Tours various floodlit sites including Amber before finishing up at one of the forts overlooking the city for a buffet meal. All included in the price except your beer.
