We're planning our 1st trip to India, 23rd Jan-12th Feb.
We're flying to and from Delhi.
We're a couple on low/medium budget.
We'd prefer trains but bus is acceptable as well
We're prety flexible and would like to make the most of our time in India.

We don't have yet set tour but that's what I was thinking about:
- Delhi
- Bikaner
- Jodhpur
- Udaipur
- Jaipur
- Agra
- Jhansi
- Khajuraho
- Varanasi
and back to Delhi

Do you think it's feasible? I know that it's rather tight schedule for 3 weeks. I've been reading your forum for some time now and I know you advise to cut the list as much as possible...but what to cut??? All places seem so beautiful & interesting!
Could you please tell me what you think and what are your suggestions.
As I mentioned we're flexible at the moment & are prepared to cut some time in one place and add some extra in other.
I'm really looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks in advance for all your help!

You are right and it is rather tight. Try to take as many overnight trains as possible.

You might consider to skip Bikaner, it is a nice place but not so appealing as the other cities. Take the train from Delhi to Jodhpur and proceed from there as you have proposed.

Jodhpur-Udaipur you must do by bus or hired car.
Form Jhansi, I hope you go to Orccha, to Khajuraho is difficult by train. The train from Khajurao to Varanasi runs three times a week.

it could work. try something like this:

arrive, tour new delhi
fly to varanasi
night train to delhi
tour old delhi
then, you can hit rajasthan. I heard it is a pain to get from southern rajasthan (Bundi-Udaipur) to areas like Jodhpur since no train service there. So, perhaps a delhi-udaipur-bundi-jaipur-jodphur-jaisalmer/bikaner could work.

I had about 2 1/2 weeks and did a similar trip, but didnt get to Varanasi.
