in any hotel reception they wont asked for the certificate or any evidence to know whether you are married couple or not , just they shall like to have a photocopy of the photo identity proof like passport. So just relxae and chill with your fiance you can aslo put a sign of dont disturb in the door

Yeah, they insist on a photo id, but not much else. You'll be fine. Enjoy Kerala - it's amazing.

Never been asked for photo id, or even id.

Guess I just have a honest face.

Since the terror strikes in Mumbai. Most of the places you visit will ask for a photo and address ID (passport copy)... even an internet cafe. So dont get alarmed, its normal procedure now anywhere in India

WOW

That seems a little excessive so should I have to produce my passport all the time.

The only reason I ask, is when I travel I usually carry my passport and extra cash in pouch thats attached to my abdomen ...its quite a discrete place

That's where most of us keep it. And most hotel owners know it

Someone once mentioned here carrying a laminated copy of his passport and visa page for the purpose. Could be worth a shot; expect to still be asked for the real thing every so often.

Having to show your passport and arrival document is not unique to India. Many countries require that for hotel stays and for buying a SIM card.
